Chimney & Hearth Service Technician

Locally owned | Harford County, MD | Serving Baltimore & Cecil Counties

Full-time | Competitive pay + incentives | Long-term career path

About the company

Established locally owned chimney and hearth company serving the area since 1987. We need mechanically skilled, hands-on people for a true trade role—not just chimney sweeping. Work includes gas and pellet stove repair, chimney rebuilds, fireplace and insert installs, and stone veneer. We train chimney-specific skills through a structured apprenticeship. We look for people who take pride in craftsmanship and want to move into lead or senior roles.

The role

Physically active, technical, construction-oriented work. Diagnose and repair heating appliances; install and rebuild chimneys and fireplaces. Best fit: mechanical aptitude from construction, HVAC, automotive, appliance repair, or similar trades, plus willingness to learn masonry and chimney systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair gas and pellet stoves (electronics, ignition, venting)
  • Perform chimney/fireplace inspections and sweeps
  • Rebuild and repair chimneys (tear-downs, crowns, flues)
  • Install fireplaces and wood, gas, and pellet inserts
  • Install stone veneer on fireplaces, chimneys, and exteriors
  • Complete masonry repairs: tuckpointing, brick replacement, dampers, caps, liners
  • Troubleshoot fireplaces, stoves, and venting
  • Give honest recommendations, write estimates, and deliver strong customer service
  • Keep accurate records and follow safety protocols
Requirements

We value real hands-on ability over prior chimney experience.

Required:

  • Proven mechanical aptitude diagnosing and repairing equipment (electronics, HVAC, vehicles, appliances, or similar)
  • Hands-on construction or trade background
  • Comfort working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and use power tools daily
  • Reliable, accountable, and motivated to grow into leadership
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license, clean record, and reliable transportation
Preferred (paid training provided):

  • Gas systems, electrical diagnosis, or masonry/stone work
  • CSIA, NFI, NCSG, or similar certifications
  • Fireplace install, stone veneer, or chimney rebuild experience
Training

No chimney experience required. Solid hands-on skills and a drive to learn are enough. Our apprenticeship trains you step by step and supports industry certifications.
