Position Summary
The Electrical Service Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, estimating, execution, financial management, and successful completion of commercial and industrial electrical service projects. This position manages multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring exceptional customer service, safety compliance, quality workmanship, and profitability.
The Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between customers, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and company leadership. This role requires extensive experience in a union electrical contracting environment, with the ability to effectively manage IBEW labor, coordinate manpower, administer service contracts, and deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage multiple commercial and industrial electrical service projects from customer request through final closeout.
- Review contracts, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to establish project scope.
- Develop project schedules, manpower plans, procurement strategies, and execution plans.
- Coordinate project activities with customers, service supervisors, foremen, electricians, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor project progress to ensure compliance with contract requirements, schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Conduct project kickoff meetings and regular project review meetings.
- Manage project documentation including:
- Contracts
- Purchase orders
- RFIs
- Submittals
- Change Orders
- Permits
- Closeout Documentation
- Identify project risks and implement corrective action when necessary.
Customer Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Respond promptly to customer concerns and service requests.
- Provide regular project status updates.
- Identify opportunities for additional work and long-term service agreements.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through responsive communication and professional service.
Estimating & Business Development
- Prepare estimates and quotations for electrical service work, renovations, tenant improvements, emergency repairs, and maintenance contracts.
- Review plans, specifications, and field conditions.
- Prepare and negotiate change orders.
- Support business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities.
- Assist in preparing proposals for preventive maintenance agreements and long-term service contracts.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage project budgets.
- Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, subcontractor costs, and material expenditures.
- Review weekly cost reports and financial performance.
- Forecast project costs and revenue.
- Approve vendor invoices and subcontractor billings.
- Coordinate project billing and assist with collections.
- Achieve established gross profit objectives while maintaining customer satisfaction.
Field Operations
- Coordinate daily activities with service supervisors and field personnel.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits.
- Provide technical guidance and problem-solving assistance.
- Ensure projects meet company quality standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
- Prepare weekly project status reports.
- Process contracts and change orders.
- Participate in operational planning meetings.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and progressively responsible electrical industry experience will be considered.
Required Experience
- Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in the commercial and industrial electrical contracting industry.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible project management experience overseeing commercial electrical service projects.
- Experience working for a signatory electrical contractor performing commercial and industrial electrical work under an IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement is required. Candidates without union electrical contracting experience will not be considered.
- Demonstrated experience managing commercial electrical service, maintenance, renovation, tenant fit-out, emergency response, and capital improvement projects.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects while meeting budget, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction objectives.
- Experience preparing estimates, budgets, project schedules, procurement plans, and project closeout documentation.
- Strong customer relationship management experience with commercial, industrial, institutional, and government clients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
- Experience managing electrical service agreements and preventive maintenance contracts.
- Experience with healthcare, education, mission-critical, government, municipal, industrial, and commercial facilities.
- Experience with public work, prevailing wage, and certified payroll requirements.
- Familiarity with federal contracting requirements, minority participation programs, and government procurement processes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical systems.
- Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and NFPA 70E.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, mentoring, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and financial management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
- Excellent customer service, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
- Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Bluebeam Revu
- Accubid (preferred)
- Viewpoint Vista, Spectrum, or similar ERP software
- Procore or equivalent construction management software
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification preferred.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License preferred.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel regularly between customer facilities and project sites.
