    Service Manager - HVAC
     
    Position Overview
    As a Service Manager - HVAC at a Modigent operating company, you will lead commercial HVAC service operations, including repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and light retrofit work. You will oversee service teams, drive customer satisfaction, ensure operational excellence, and deliver profitable results. Working closely with senior leadership, dispatch, and field supervisors, you will manage resources, develop people, and continuously improve service delivery. Progression from Level I to Level II reflects increasing scope of responsibility, team size, financial accountability, and strategic impact.
     
    Duties and Responsibilities by Level
    Service Manager I - HVAC
    • Lead day-to-day HVAC service operations for an assigned territory, market, or service line.
    • Supervise Service Foremen, technicians, and support staff to deliver high-quality, timely service.
    • Oversee scheduling, dispatch coordination, and resource allocation to maximize productivity and response times.
    • Ensure strong customer communication, issue resolution, and satisfaction on assigned accounts.
    • Monitor job profitability, labor utilization, and key service metrics; take corrective action as needed.
    • Enforce safety standards, quality expectations, and company policies across the service team.
    • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management of service personnel.
    • Collaborate with Sales, Dispatch, and Operations to maintain alignment and support growth.
    • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with refrigerant and service regulations.
    Service Manager II - HVAC
    • Provide senior leadership for broader or more complex HVAC service operations (larger territory, multiple teams, or higher-volume accounts).
    • Own full P&L responsibility or significant financial performance for the service business unit.
    • Develop and execute strategies to improve first-time fix rates, response times, customer retention, and profitability.
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across people, processes, and technology.
    • Mentor and develop Service Manager I, Service Foremen, and high-potential technicians.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, general contractors, and internal stakeholders.
    • Partner with senior leadership on capacity planning, market expansion, and service product development.
    • Drive a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
    • Represent the service organization in cross-functional initiatives and strategic planning.
    Supervisory Responsibilities
    Yes – Direct leadership of Service Foremen, technicians, and support staff. Level II carries broader span of control and greater accountability for team development and succession planning.
    Requirements/Qualifications
    • Experience:
      • Level I: 7+ years of progressive commercial HVAC service experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
      • Level II: 10+ years of progressive HVAC service experience with 5+ years of people and operational leadership; proven track record managing service P&L or large teams preferred.
    • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
    • Certifications/Licenses: EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required. Relevant HVAC certifications (NATE, manufacturer training) and OSHA 30 preferred. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
    • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with regular job site visits; ability to walk active service sites and travel within the assigned territory.
    • Work Environment/Safety: Combination of office and active service environments. This is a safety-sensitive leadership position.

    • Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and service best practices.
    • Proven leadership, team development, and performance management skills.
    • Excellent customer relationship and communication abilities.
    • Solid financial acumen (job costing, labor management, profitability analysis).
    • Ability to drive process improvement and operational excellence.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and composure under pressure.
