Senior Water/Wastewater Operations Specialist (Class III, LA)

Pay: $70,000–$80,000 DOE

Location: Bossier City, LA

Schedule: Full-Time | On-Call Required

Your day, your impact

Morning checks of a 3 MGD activated sludge facility. Midday sample runs and lab work with precise recordkeeping. Afternoon coordination with contractors while coaching junior Operators on safe, efficient procedures. As our Senior Water/Wastewater Operations Specialist, you keep critical water and wastewater systems running reliably, safely, and in full regulatory compliance—protecting public health every hour of the day.

What you will do

  • Direct daily operation and maintenance of public water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems.
  • Lead and mentor Operators I and II; step in hands-on to support daily tasks when needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections of wells, treatment equipment, water system components, and wastewater facilities to verify optimal performance.
  • Collect water and wastewater samples, carry out required laboratory tests, and maintain accurate operational records to meet regulatory standards.
  • Perform utility locates; complete meter reads and re-reads.
  • Troubleshoot and repair water lines, sewer lines, pumps, valves, and related mechanical/electrical equipment within role scope.
  • Coordinate specialized work with outside contractors.
  • Monitor collection system flows; respond to issues and assist with clearing blockages to sustain system performance.
  • Operate and maintain plant equipment, including a belt press.
  • Execute preventive maintenance per established procedures and schedules.
  • Keep facilities, equipment, and workspaces clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow safety policies and consistently use required PPE.
  • Collaborate closely with teammates to ensure dependable utility service and excellent customer outcomes.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least three (3) years of industrial or environmental O&M experience—preferably in water and/or wastewater—or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Active Louisiana State Department of Health Wastewater Collection Class III and/or Wastewater Treatment Class III certification.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license.
  • In-depth knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes, system operations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skill in operating treatment plant equipment, including a belt press.
  • Capability to perform mechanical repairs and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and technical procedures.
  • Competence in preparing routine reports and keeping accurate records.
  • Proficiency with mathematical calculations required under Louisiana operator certification standards.

Physical demands and work conditions

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and hands-on maintenance tasks.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of up to 50 pounds.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Safe work around moving mechanical equipment, electrical components, and other industrial hazards.
  • Consistent use of required PPE.
  • Occasional exposure to loud noise.
