    Description

Position: Senior Vice President, Head of Tax

    The Opportunity:
The Senior Vice President, Head of Tax (SVP) will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and oversee the strategy and operations of the Rockbridge tax function, including a network of top-tier accounting firms and tax counsel. Across the firm, you are the trusted tax advisor to the investment, development, finance, and investor relations teams.

This role suits a tax leader who enjoys orchestrating complex work, wants a seat advising at the table where deals are shaped, and is equally comfortable running a disciplined compliance calendar and taking an urgent call from the front office.  In this role, leverage, judgment, and relationships are critical to success.

The tax function is highly co-sourced with external partners.  Your critical role is to oversee those relationships and make sure they work as designed.

    What You’ll Lead:

    Lead the compliance function
    • Own scope, fees, service levels, and calendars across funds, joint ventures, property-level partnerships, and corporate entities
    • Direct the three top-tier national accounting firms that perform our compliance work, along with a broader network of firms and tax counsel
    • Review returns and K-1s before filing so investors receive accurate information on time
    • Keep information moving among Fund, Real Estate and Corporate Accounting, the firms, and our joint venture partners
    • Hold external providers accountable through regular performance reviews and disciplined fee management
    • Drive tax notices, payments, and audits through to resolution

    Shape the deals
    • Work alongside the investment and development teams on acquisitions, dispositions, recapitalizations, and new vehicles
    • Advise on structures that balance the needs of different investor types and maximize after-tax value
    • Lead tax credit and incentive transactions, and translate structures into investment model overlays
    • Evaluate feasibility with Accounting, including operational practicality, administrative requirements, and ongoing costs
    • Stay ahead of legislation and emerging structures

    Plan with forecasting
    • Lead multi-year corporate and fund-level tax forecasting and the quarterly estimate process
    • Make tax a non-event at close and year-end, with no surprises and no penalties
    • Be the go-to resource for all things tax, from front-office structuring questions to HR withholding

Partner with our investors on tax
    • Act as an effective liaison with investors on tax matters, working hand in hand with Investor Relations
    • Handle investor tax questions, due diligence questionnaires, and institutional diligence with confidence
    • Set clear expectations on K-1 timing and estimates
    • Look for outcomes that are efficient for investors and for the firm

    Who You Are:

    • Have an established network across the tax community, including accounting firms, tax attorneys, and industry peers
    • Executive presence and the ability to explain complex tax matters plainly to leadership, investors, and non-tax teams
    • Comfort with a mix of planned, deadline-driven work and urgent requests from the business. You are calm, responsive, and people-first
    • A leader who gets results through outside partners and works peer-to-peer with firm partners and counsel
    • Detail-oriented, with sound commercial judgment
    Required Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.  An active CPA license is highly desired, and a Master's in Taxation is a plus
    • Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible partnership tax experience, preferably in real estate, hospitality, or private equity
    • Public accounting experience with a large national firm is a plus
    • Proven experience directing large, complex tax engagements
