The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex HVAC/R systems across commercial and industrial settings. This role ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards while managing preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance and longevity. The position involves mentoring team members, coordinating service activities, and supporting critical business needs through timely issue resolution. The Senior Technician collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance operational processes and drives continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies and implementing effective solutions.
About the team:
The Facility Services HVAC/Refrigeration team is dedicated to maintaining and repairing critical systems that support Walmart’s commercial and industrial facilities. This team oversees installation, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. Members collaborate closely to manage equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements. They coordinate service calls, maintain parts inventory, and ensure timely resolution of operational needs. The team fosters skill development through hands-on training and mentorship, supporting business priorities with a focus on reliability, safety, and efficiency to uphold Walmart’s commitment to operational excellence.
What you'll do:

• Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
• Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues to ensure optimal system performance.
• Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
• Manage refrigerant handling and compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes.
• Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
• Maintain accurate documentation, work orders, and inventory records.
• Support on-call rotations and respond promptly to critical service needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes and implement new technologies.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including commercial and industrial refrigeration units.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and development.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
• Proficiency in managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, and coordinating service workloads.
• Effective communication skills to document work accurately and collaborate across teams.

The hourly wage range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00* *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications...

Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration., Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)., Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams., Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment., Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.
