Job Details

As a Senior Tax Manager, you will play a key leadership role in managing complex tax engagements with a strong focus on real estate and partnership taxation. You will work closely with real estate clients and their related entities, providing high level tax compliance, planning, and advisory services while overseeing complex partnership and real estate tax matters.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns, with a strong emphasis on partnerships, real estate entities, and high net worth individuals.
  • Serve as a primary tax advisor to real estate clients, providing guidance on complex partnership and real estate tax matters.
  • Review and advise on complex partnership tax issues, including IRC Sections 704(c), 754, 1031, and 1033.
  • Analyze and review partnership income allocations, capital accounts, and distributions, including experience with hypothetical liquidation approaches and target capital account methodologies.
  • Provide tax planning and advisory services related to real estate acquisitions, dispositions, exchanges, partnership restructuring, and other complex transactions.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and develop strategies to minimize tax liabilities while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Take ownership of complex client engagements from planning through completion, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
  • Conduct and oversee detailed tax research on complex federal, state, and local tax matters affecting real estate and partnership clients.
  • Review the work of Managers, Seniors, and Staff Accountants while providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Lead and develop a team of tax professionals, helping establish priorities and ensuring high quality work product.
  • Manage client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for key engagements.
  • Work closely with Partners and other departments to develop solutions for complex client issues and transactions.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships and develop new business.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master’s degree and/or CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a similar environment.
  • Significant experience with partnership and real estate taxation, preferably within a public accounting environment.
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex partnership tax returns and returns for real estate entities.
  • Hands-on knowledge of complex partnership tax concepts, including IRC Sections 704(c), 754, 1031, and/or 1033.
  • Experience with partnership income allocations, capital accounts, and hypothetical liquidation or target capital account methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of tax implications surrounding real estate acquisitions, dispositions, exchanges, financing, and partnership restructuring.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance, planning, and research.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex tax issues and develop practical solutions for clients.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop tax professionals.
  • Strong client management and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with business owners, investors, and other sophisticated clients.
