    Job Description

    Position Summary

Holden Conner is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to take a leading role in tax strategy, compliance, and planning across a diverse portfolio of agricultural entities, land holdings, and related investments.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned tax professional to bring their expertise in-house and have a meaningful impact on the long-term financial strategy of a privately held enterprise with deep roots in agriculture and land ownership.

The role involves complex, multi-entity tax structures and requires a strong understanding of partnership taxation, agricultural depreciation, land transactions, and tax planning for closely held businesses. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, identifying opportunities proactively, and partnering with outside advisors when specialized expertise is needed.

This position goes beyond traditional tax compliance. While accurate and timely filings remain essential, the focus is also on tax planning, strategic analysis, and finding opportunities to improve the long-term tax position of the organization and its related entities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns for agricultural entities, partnerships, trusts, and related individuals.
    • Develop and execute tax strategies across complex, multi-entity farm and investment structures, including LLCs, partnerships, and S-Corporations.
    • Evaluate and implement agricultural depreciation strategies, including Section 179, bonus depreciation, and equipment lifecycle planning.
    • Provide tax guidance related to land acquisitions, dispositions, exchanges, and property tax matters.
    • Identify and evaluate tax planning opportunities related to entity structure, investments, and long-term business objectives.
    • Support long-term tax planning related to generational transfer considerations and entity optimization.
    • Research and interpret changes in federal and state tax law and assess their potential impact on agricultural operations and related entities.
    • Prepare and manage quarterly tax estimates, projections, and tax calendar requirements.
    • Coordinate with external CPA firms, legal counsel, financial advisors, and other professional partners as needed.
    • Support financial reporting, reconciliations, and analysis related to tax activity.
    • Serve as an internal resource for tax-related questions and provide practical guidance to leadership and other members of the Shared Services team.

    What We're Looking For

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • CPA preferred; EA or another advanced tax credential will be considered.
    • 5+ years of progressive tax experience, with significant experience in agricultural, farm, partnership, or closely held business taxation.
    • Strong knowledge of partnership taxation and multi-entity structures.
    • Demonstrated understanding of agricultural depreciation strategies and land-related tax considerations.
    • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance requirements.
    • Ability to analyze complex tax issues, research applicable tax law, and translate findings into practical recommendations.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to independently manage complex tax matters and deadlines.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent judgment and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Candidates with strong tax experience in closely held businesses, partnerships, real estate, or other complex multi-entity environments are encouraged to apply, even if their background is not exclusively agricultural.

    Why Join Holden Conner?

Holden Conner provides centralized management, accounting, and operational support for a group of privately held businesses and investments with deep roots in land and agricultural operations.

This is a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional tax compliance and become a key internal tax resource for a sophisticated portfolio of businesses and investments. You will have the opportunity to influence tax strategy, work directly with leadership and outside advisors, and help shape long-term planning decisions.

We value financial discipline, thoughtful decision-making, long-term stewardship, and people who take ownership of their work. For the right professional, this role offers the opportunity to build something meaningful inside a stable, privately held organization rather than simply managing a book of tax returns.

Together we will foster a collaborative culture leveraging diverse perspectives and expertise to drive innovation, make informed decisions, and create value across our portfolio of entities.

It is the policy of Holden Conner not to discriminate against any applicant for employment, or any employee because of age, color, sex, disability, national origin, race, religion, or veteran status.
