It also includes providing system guidance to engineers in various disciplines (mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software) and validating that the designs developed by the various disciplines integrate correctly and address the product requirements.
  • Generate technical requirements based on customer requirements, technical tradeoffs (cost vs. function vs. time-to-market vs. quality), compliance, manufacturing, and service requirements. Work with product manager to validate customer requirements based on the tradeoffs arising from them.
  • Develop a system architecture capable of meeting the technical and product requirements. Consider portioning of project into modular subsystems and interfaces, tradeoffs of the proposed design, and reuse of modules.
  • Provide high level system context to the engineering (mechanical, electrical hardware, firmware, and desktop/cloud software) team members and validate the output from these teams in the context of the project. Evaluate engineering alternatives understand team capabilities, improve collaboration/interfaces, and reduce risks between the engineering disciplines.
  • Gather, develop, and maintain the technical project schedule. Collaborate with the project manager to integrate the technical schedule with the overall schedule that includes non-engineering project members.
  • Work with the engineering team to drive the completion of the subsystems and to integrate them together. Validate the quality and fitness for purpose of the various subsystems developed by the individual engineering contributors.
