Senior Substation Physical Designer

Job Summary

Join our Power Networks team to provide transmission line design services. This role requires the preparation of scaled physical electrical drawings for high voltage substation projects, ensuring quality and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare scaled physical electrical drawings for high voltage substation projects, including one-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan views, elevation views, grounding plans, and conduit plans with minimal supervision.
• Develop and review complete design drawing packages.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to develop the drawing package.
• Create and review bills of material, conduit, and cable schedules for substation projects.
• Work closely with engineers and other disciplines to ensure coordinated design systems.
• Read and interpret vendor-supplied drawings, construction specifications, and project-related documents.
• Work within a team environment, taking direction from the lead engineer to create project drawings.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Work with limited direction and assist with conceptualizing layouts using reference information.
• Deliver quality, accurate, and timely work to clients.
• Travel to job sites for site walkdowns as needed.
• Ensure quality assurance of documents to applicable drawing standards and proper document management procedures.
• Complete tasks in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes, standards, schedule, and budget.

Technical and Industry Experience

• Extensive relevant design experience.
• Understanding of regulations, electrical codes, manufacturing standards, and industry practices.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and MicroStation; 3D CAD is a plus.
• Skilled in manipulating scaled vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to understand and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
• Familiarity with electrical design codes and standards.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for effective teamwork.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required:

• Associate Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design/Drafting with discipline-specific training.
• Experience and familiarity with substation design.

Preferred:

• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting.
