Senior Substation Engineer - GridOur client is a nationally recognized engineering and infrastructure consulting firm delivering complex utility, transmission, substation, renewable interconnection, and grid modernization projects across North America. Their teams support investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and energy developers through full project lifecycles-from planning and engineering through energization and system expansion.Job DescriptionLead detailed engineering and technical execution for substation and transmission projects ranging from 34.5kV-500kV, including greenfield and brownfield upgrades.Support project development activities including conceptual design, scope definition, execution planning, constructability reviews, and technical risk evaluation.Manage engineering deliverables for projects such as new AIS/GIS substations, 138kV/230kV transmission expansions, utility reliability upgrades, renewable energy collector substations, battery energy storage interconnections, switchyard expansions, and large industrial power delivery infrastructure.Perform electrical engineering analysis and resolve complex technical challenges involving station configuration, equipment application, system reliability, and constructability.Develop and review engineering studies including ground grid design, lightning shielding analysis, battery and charger sizing, equipment sizing, cable studies, and station service evaluations.Review and approve engineering packages, calculations, specifications, and drawing sets developed by internal and external design teams.Coordinate with project management, civil, structural, protection & controls, and transmission engineering teams to maintain project schedule and budget alignment.Interface directly with utility clients and project stakeholders throughout planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.Support engineering execution for projects involving 69kV, 115kV, 138kV, 230kV, 345kV, and 500kV substations and associated transmission infrastructure.Provide technical oversight during construction, field inspections, energization activities, outage coordination, and commissioning support.Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.Participate in occasional site visits to support project delivery and field issue resolution.MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
