Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to support structural design and engineering efforts for complex industrial and design-build projects throughout the Southeastern United States. This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong engineer who enjoys working closely with construction and project teams to develop practical, innovative, and cost-effective solutions from concept through construction.
The ideal candidate will bring structural engineering expertise in steel and concrete design, experience supporting industrial projects, and a collaborative approach to project delivery. This position provides the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects while contributing to all phases of design, engineering, and construction execution.
What You'll Do
- Serve as an integral member of the design-build team from project conception through construction completion.
- Perform structural analysis and design for industrial and heavy commercial projects.
- Design structural steel and reinforced concrete systems to support a variety of operational and facility requirements.
- Develop calculations, specifications, engineering reports, and other technical documentation.
- Ensure the timely delivery of accurate and complete construction documents.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering and design team members.
- Collaborate closely with designers and drafting professionals to develop construction-ready drawings and project deliverables.
- Participate in project planning, design reviews, and coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform site assessments, field investigations, and evaluations of existing structures and conditions.
- Conduct construction-phase site visits and inspections to verify compliance with design intent.
- Review and evaluate structural systems for safety, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, architects, and other engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support the development of innovative engineering solutions that meet project requirements and project objectives.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and engineering best practices.
- Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Contribute to structural and geotechnical-related design efforts as project needs require.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis is a plus.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation is a plus.
- Experience designing structural steel and reinforced concrete systems.
- Experience supporting heavy industrial, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, or design-build projects preferred.
- Exposure to geotechnical engineering principles or geotechnical-related projects is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of structural analysis methods, building codes, and industry standards.
- Experience developing structural calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of construction methods and constructability considerations.
- Experience conducting site visits, structural assessments, and construction inspections.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and project teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with structural engineering design and analysis software.
- Ability to work onsite in Davidson, North Carolina.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Willingness to travel as needed to project sites throughout the Southeastern United States.
Additional Details
- Fully onsite position based in Davidson, North Carolina.
- Supports heavy industrial and design-build projects throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and occasionally Ohio.
- Travel is generally light, though project-related travel may occur as needed.
- Bonus opportunities are based on company performance, with historical bonus payouts available in most years.
- Strong consideration will be given to candidates who exceed the minimum technical and industry experience requirements.
