    ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Averro is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the engineering team of a leading manufacturer of photonic integrated circuits and optical products serving the communications, aerospace, and sensing markets. Their wafers are built in company-owned fabs that run around the clock, and the production system you will help build decides which wafers run, on which tools, and in what order, while holding the traceability record for every one of them. This is not a maintenance role. The team is moving from systems that work to systems that scale: multi-site, hybrid cloud, containerized, and deployed continuously. You will work directly with process engineers, equipment engineers, and technicians on the floor, and you will work alongside AI coding agents as everyday collaborators.

    •       Build and evolve the production platform: work order routing, metrology-driven wafer selection, batch and capacity constraints, and traceability across every process step

    •       Integrate with fab equipment and metrology systems where data arrives messy, late, or not at all, and the system has to stay correct anyway

    •       Design APIs and service boundaries that let the rest of the engineering org build against the line without reaching into its internals

    •       Develop services that span AWS and on-premise infrastructure at every site, and degrade gracefully when a site loses its link rather than stopping the line

    •       Own containerized deployment, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines across the multi-site footprint

    •       Build data pipelines that move measurement, image, and traceability data from every site into a form process and yield engineers can query

    •       Deliver interfaces people trust under time pressure, from touchscreens at the tool to multi-monitor workstations, for technicians, process engineers, researchers, and managers, supported by a coherent design system

    •       Build authentication, authorization, audit, least privilege, and threat modeling into designs from the start, not retrofitted before an audit

    •       Use AI coding agents in daily development, including how code is tested, reviewed, and shipped, with clear conventions, current documentation, and tight test coverage where it matters

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    •       5+ years building and running production software, with real depth in at least one of Python, TypeScript, or Go

    •       Scripting proficiency across Linux and Windows (Bash and/or PowerShell)

    •       AWS in production: compute, networking, IAM, and managed data services

    •       Experience with hybrid and distributed systems spanning cloud and on-premise, or across multiple sites

    •       Docker and infrastructure as code (Terraform or OpenTofu)

    •       CI/CD ownership: built and debugged pipelines, not just consumed them

    •       Strong data modeling and SQL skills, including query performance and background job orchestration at scale

    •       Experience building software where incorrect state has physical or financial consequences (manufacturing, logistics, payments, healthcare, or similar)

    •       Security as a design constraint: threat modeling, authentication/authorization boundaries, least privilege, and secret handling

    •       Daily use of AI coding agents, with the judgment to review diffs carefully and know when a small script beats an agent loop

    •       Strong written documentation habits

    •       Must be located in the Pacific or Mountain Time Zone

    BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

    •       Frontend depth: component architecture, state management, and rendering large datasets, plus experience with responsive and touch interfaces

    •       Django, PostgreSQL, and REST API experience

    •       Dagster, and warehouse or lakehouse patterns on S3 / Athena

    •       GitHub Actions, ECS, and containerized local development

    •       Hands-on experience with Claude Code, Model Context Protocol, and structured tool calling

    •       Data science or analytics background: statistical process control, experiment design, yield or defect analysis, or ML on manufacturing data

    •       Semiconductor, hardware, or process manufacturing exposure
