Senior Software Engineer - Principal AI Engineer (Remote)
About the Role
Join a forward-thinking organization as a Senior Software Engineer (AI Developer IV / Principal AI Engineer) and lead enterprise-scale AI initiatives shaping the future of AI-first engineering. You will provide technical vision, drive architecture strategy, and remain hands-on in designing and delivering transformative AI solutions. This remote role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere or onsite at Juno Beach, FL or St. Paul, MN, partnering cross-functionally with engineering, product, and executive teams.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the organization''s enterprise AI architecture strategy
- Design, build, and deploy scalable AI-powered applications and distributed systems
- Lead high-impact, complex AI transformation projects from conception through execution
- Remain hands-on with production-level code, ensuring best-in-class software delivery
- Collaborate with engineering, product, research, and executive stakeholders to achieve strategic goals
- Establish and implement AI governance frameworks, security standards, and ethical AI practices
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend strategic investments
- Mentor senior engineers and cultivate future technical leaders
- Guide teams on architectural decisions involving cloud platforms, AI services, and data ecosystems
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices
- Lead technical design reviews and influence enterprise-wide engineering standards
Required Skills and Experience
- 15+ years of software engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Expert-level Python development and backend engineering
- Proven experience designing scalable distributed systems
- Strong background in AI/ML technologies and modern software architecture
- Deep experience with cloud-native applications (AWS or GCP)
- Proficiency in infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- API and microservices design expertise
- Frontend development with Vue.js (preferred), React, or Angular
- Strong DevOps skills: GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation
- Experience with generative AI technologies and AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Codex, GitHub Copilot)
Preferred Skills
- Recognized subject matter expertise in AI/ML with enterprise-scale impact
- Experience establishing and leading AI governance frameworks
- Track record of leading AI transformation programs
- Strong knowledge of data platforms and data ecosystems
- Advanced understanding of AI strategy and technology trends
- Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers and technical leaders
