Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Senior Software Engineer to support technical users on a classified High Performance Computing (HPC) research and development environment in Colorado Springs, CO. In this role you will be the go-to technical resource for scientists and engineers running modeling and simulation workloads on HPC systems, helping them onboard, resolve access issues, troubleshoot code, and keep complex workflows running smoothly in a secure, mission-critical environment.
Day to day, you will split your time between hands-on user support, scripting, debugging, and documentation, all while coordinating closely with the customer, O&M, and security teams to keep the HPC environment secure and available. This role suits an engineer who enjoys direct technical problem-solving with end users, is comfortable moving between C/C++/Fortran code, Linux shells, and configuration management practices, and takes pride in clear documentation and dependable support in a high-security, high-stakes setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct technical support to classified HPC users including onboarding and account and access troubleshooting
- Assist researchers with modeling and simulation workflows written in C, C++, and Fortran
- Write and maintain Bash and Korn shell scripts to automate user workflows and diagnostics
- Debug and maintain user codebases running on Linux-based HPC clusters
- Document common issues, resolutions, and standard operating procedures for the user community
- Coordinate with O&M teams to resolve system, storage, and job scheduler issues affecting users
- Coordinate with security teams to ensure access requests and account actions meet program requirements
- Track and manage configuration items and changes within established configuration management processes
- Triage and prioritize incoming user support requests and escalate as needed
- Deliver user training and orientation materials for new HPC environment users
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI clearance with a Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph is required
- DOD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification is required
- 10 or more years of technical experience, including modeling and simulation support
- Hands-on experience with C and C++ in a modeling and simulation context
- Working experience with Fortran in an HPC or scientific computing environment
- Basic to intermediate Linux command line experience is required
- Familiarity with HPC environments, job schedulers, and parallel computing concepts
- Experience with Bash and Korn shell scripting for automation and troubleshooting
- Strong written communication skills for technical documentation
