    Senior Software Developer / Full-Stack Developer

    Location: Namibia

    Level: Senior

    Reports to: Technical Lead- Health Information System & Digital Health

    Position Summary:

    The Senior Software Developer plays a critical role in building and scaling digital health platforms that serve Namibia's national health information ecosystem. This role is responsible for the end-to-end development of robust, user-friendly systems-including The Digital Community System-ensuring adherence to global best practices and national standards. The developer will lead full-stack software design, contribute to architectural decisions, and ensure applications are secure, responsive, and maintainable. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who thrives in collaborative, cross-functional teams working in a mission-driven environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead the design, development, and optimization of frontend and backend components across key digital health platforms.
    • Customize and extend core applications to reflect local workflows, user feedback, and policy requirements.
    • Collaborate closely with business analysts, data teams, MoHSS stakeholders and Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to deliver high-impact solutions.
    • Conduct regular code reviews, implement software versioning, and maintain high standards of documentation and quality assurance.
    • Mentor junior developers and contribute to capacity building within the Ministry of Health and partners.
    • Ensure cross-platform security, responsiveness, and performance optimization.
    • Implement features that support offline-first operation, background syncing, and local data storage in rural and remote environments.
    • Ensure all integrations comply with national interoperability frameworks and international standards (e.g., Nam-X, HL7 FHIR, OpenHIE, IHE profiles).
    • Maintain backend services and data models that ensure timely and accurate data exchange between systems.
    • Participate in user testing and field pilots, refining the application based on frontline feedback.
    • Maintain system technical documentation and support training efforts for local development teams and end users.
    • Facilitate real-time and batch data exchange between current and planned EMRs, EDT, DHIS2, and other systems.
    • Lead the integration of legacy systems with modern digital health platforms, identifying and resolving compatibility issues.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or masters degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
    • Minimum 5 years of software development experience, preferably in health information systems.
    • Proficiency in JavaScript, Angular/React, Node.js, Java, or similar technologies.
    • Experience working with DHIS2, OpenMRS, or similar platforms is preferred.
    • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, Git, CI/CD pipelines.
    • Familiarity with offline-first design and health system apps preferred.
    • Strong communication skills and user-centered design orientation.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in Namibia and provide proof of work eligibility upon request.
