Job Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Site Safety Specialist to support occupational health and safety compliance activities during site startup, commissioning, and qualification (C&Q) operations at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the Indianapolis area. This individual will partner closely with the site EHS team to ensure OSHA and internal safety standards are effectively implemented and maintained during the transition from construction into GMP manufacturing operations. The role requires strong field engagement, hands-on safety execution, and the ability to apply regulatory requirements in a practical manufacturing environment.
Job Duties:
- Provide day-to-day safety support during startup, commissioning, and qualification activities
- Support implementation and compliance of OSHA-regulated safety programs
- Conduct field safety observations, audits, inspections, and risk assessments
- Investigate incidents, deviations, and near misses using root cause analysis methodologies
- Support contractor safety activities including orientations, compliance audits, and escalation of safety concerns
- Ensure safety documentation remains inspection-ready and compliant with internal and regulatory standards
- Enforce Stop-Work Authority when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified
- Partner with operations, engineering, and project teams to support safe startup execution
- Support regulatory readiness and interface with HSE-related agencies as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline; or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 5 years of safety experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting OSHA-regulated safety programs, including:
- Lockout/Tagout (29 CFR 1910.147)
- Permit-Required Confined Space (29 CFR 1910.146)
- Electrical Safety / NFPA 70E
- Fall Protection (29 CFR 1926.502)
- Contractor HSE Management
- Experience working in contractor-dense industrial environments
- Strong understanding of GMP manufacturing environments preferred
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain strong field presence in a fast-paced startup environment
