Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Site Safety & Health Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity supporting heavy construction and electrical transmission and distribution (T&D) projects. This position will provide hands-on Safety & Health leadership at the project site, ensuring construction activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable company policies and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical overhead T&D safety background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate conflict resolution while working effectively with project management, field personnel, clients, subcontractors, and safety professionals.

The initial assignment will be based in Oak Creek, WI, and is expected to be long term. However, the successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to other project locations without restrictions as project needs change.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and implement project-specific Safety & Health policies, procedures, and programs in a heavy construction environment.
• Provide professional Safety & Health leadership and guidance to the project management and field teams.
• Administer site Safety & Health programs to verify construction operations are properly planned and performed safely.
• Manage project Safety & Health program deliverables and respond promptly to site-specific safety and compliance questions or concerns.
• Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
• Promote a strong safety culture with the goal of achieving and maintaining zero safety incidents.
• Conduct regular Safety & Health performance reviews, assessments, inspections, and audits.
• Maintain required Safety & Health documentation and records in an audit-ready condition.
• Identify unsafe conditions and activities and implement appropriate corrective actions before work begins.
• Manage and resolve work stoppages when conditions could result in immediate danger to life or health.
• Communicate work stoppage issues to project management and collaborate on corrective actions and preventative measures.
• Consult with site personnel regarding Safety & Health issues and recommend appropriate industry best practices.
• Work directly with the client's Safety & Health organization to coordinate preventative measures and address project safety concerns.
• Build effective working relationships with project personnel, subcontractors, and subcontractor safety representatives.
• Lead project Safety & Health walkthroughs and assessments.
• Review assessment findings with appropriate project personnel and ensure deficiencies requiring immediate correction are addressed promptly.
• Prepare safety communications, memoranda, and other documentation designed to increase safety awareness and reinforce project safety goals.
• Lead, conduct, validate, and document Safety & Health training applicable to the work being performed.
• Review near-miss events, property damage incidents, environmental incidents, and accident investigation reports.
• Recommend appropriate corrective actions and countermeasures based on incident findings.
• Communicate project Safety & Health challenges, objectives, and progress to corporate safety leadership.
• Complete daily field Safety & Health reports and submit required documentation.
• Maintain all required project safety records in an audit-ready state.
• Travel to various project locations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all applicable company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following combinations:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and 7 years of construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management experience; or
• Associate degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or
• High School Diploma/GED and 11 years of relevant construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management experience.

Required Knowledge & Skills

• Strong technical safety experience in overhead transmission and distribution (T&D) construction.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA Construction and General Industry regulations.
• Working knowledge of applicable ANSI standards.
• Working knowledge of NIOSH guidelines and standards.
• Familiarity with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers safety requirements, including Engineer Manual 385-1.
• Knowledge of applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
• Strong understanding of construction safety practices, hazard identification, risk assessment, and corrective action.
• Demonstrated ability to identify potentially hazardous conditions and take appropriate action to prevent incidents.
• Strong conflict-resolution and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with project management, field personnel, clients, subcontractors, and safety representatives.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work various schedules based on project requirements.

Certifications

• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training required, or
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training required.
