Description
Skilled work involving the repair and maintenance of traffic signals and the fiber optic network. Performs fiber optic infrastructure locate services for the division.
Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.
Additional compensation based on licensure.

Responds to requests for infrastructure locates via Sunshine State One-Call notification service for both the fiber optic network and traffic signal locations.
Maintains documentation on in-field cable and equipment locations.
Inspects and verifies that fiber optic cables are installed and terminated properly by contractors.
Maintains repair parts inventory and submits requests for supplies and equipment.
Attends construction meetings with utility contractors. Maintains records and completes reports with respect to time and materials used on specific projects.
Documents work accomplished using Maintstar.
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years experience in the field of electronics, locates or fiber optics.
Must possess IMSA Work Zone Safety and IMSA Level I Signalization Certificate, or obtain same within six (6) months of employment.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida drivers license.
Proficiency in 811 Sunshine One Call ticket system desirable.
Ability to use locate equipment and understand vertical and horizontal locations of facilities within the right-of-way required.
Knowledge of the principles and theory of electronics, communications and fiber optic technology.
Knowledge of the specialized tools, materials, and methods of the fiber optic trade.
Knowledge of networking hardware and principles.
Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of varied types of heavy equipment.
Tasks performed include operating or repairing heavy equipment (bulldozers, cranes, graders).
Ability to use standard fiber optic test equipment.
Ability to learn new techniques of fiber optic installation, maintenance and repair.
Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, and blueprints for use in the planning and installation of new fiber optic links.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and carry out directions.
Ability to plan work assignments.
Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
Knowledge desirable in the operation of more complex and technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.
Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools, and medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
Department Specific trainings per position may be required.

Paid Time Off: New full-time employees accrue 20 days per year of Paid Time Off (16 days for 24-hour shift personnel). New part-time employees accrue 83 hours per year of Paid Time Off. Accrual rates increase with service time.

Health Insurance: Health Insurance is effective the first of the month after completing 30 calendar days of employment. Seminole County offers a Point of Service (POS) plan. Life Insurance: Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance for employees, equal to one times annual salary. Not extended to part-time employees.
Long-Term Disability: Provides 60% of salary after 6 months of disability. Not extended to part-time employees.

Deferred Compensation Plan (457): Employees may choose to have pre-tax payroll deductions made for deposit into this savings plan up to an IRS-established maximum.
Dental Insurance: A choice of 3 plans is available for employees and dependents at employee expense.
Additional Life Insurance: At employee expense, additional life insurance up to five times annual salary; dependent coverage also available.
Short-Term Disability Insurance: 60% of salary for the first six months of disability at employee expense.
Cancer and Specified Disease: Pays a benefit directly to the employee if being treated for this disease.
Flexible Spending Account: A pre-tax account for childcare and un-reimbursed medical expenses.
Pre-Tax Payroll Deductions: Under Section 125 of the IRS Code, certain payroll deductions for insurance coverage may be taken out prior to income being taxed.
