    Description

Want to change how security works at Amazon scale? Customer Service Application Security protects customer data for one of Amazon"s largest businesses, and we"re building intelligent automation that makes security a built-in part of how teams ship.

As a Senior Security Engineer, you"ll be the embedded security lead on our biggest, most complex initiatives. You"ll work with engineering teams from first design to launch, owning security assurance through threat modeling, security investigations and control testing. You"ll give teams and leaders confidence that what they ship is secure. Then you"ll go further, turning key findings into guardrails, paved paths and automation that eliminate whole classes of vulnerabilities across the business unit, so builders get secure systems by default.

This is a senior role with real influence. You"ll take on problems with no playbook, where the business goal is clear but the technical strategy isn"t, and you"ll define the approach. You"ll set the technical bar by reviewing other security engineers" and SDEs" designs and code to make sure they"re secure, extensible and easy to adopt. You"ll lead high-stakes escalations to closure with senior managers and principal engineers. You"ll strengthen how teams operate, from alarms and runbooks to COEs.

Your impact will go beyond code. You"ll champion secure coding standards, improve processes and build a security culture across development teams. You"ll help shape the team"s long-term strategy, mentor engineers and hire the people who grow this team.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Serve as the senior security engineer on large, complex initiatives across Customer Service. Own security assurance from ideation through launch and give teams and leaders confidence that what they ship protects customer data.
    • Lead the design of automated security guardrails, paved paths and secure-by-default patterns that remove classes of vulnerabilities across the business unit, and set the technical direction other engineers build on.
    • Take on ambiguous security problems where the business direction is clear but the technical strategy is not.
    • Drive the shift from manual, point-in-time reviews to continuous security assurance by designing preventive and detective controls and automated assessment that work at scale
    • Review the designs, code and tooling of security engineers and SDEs to make sure they fit the bigger picture and are well secured, extensible, efficient and easy for developers to adopt
    • Improve security beyond technology by championing secure coding standards, building training, improving processes and strengthening security culture across development teams
    • Help define and drive the team"s long-term security strategy with security and engineering stakeholders, informed by research into emerging threats and new techniques
    • Grow the team by mentoring engineers, taking part in hiring and interviews, and giving career guidance

    A day in the life

As a Senior Security Engineer, you"re the embedded security lead on Customer Service"s most complex initiatives. Your morning might start with shaping the threat model for a major new service, then reviewing a teammate"s guardrail design to make sure it scales and is easy to adopt. Later, you"re turning a recurring finding into a paved path that removes the issue across the business unit, or leading an escalation to closure with senior leaders. You"ll end the day mentoring an engineer or interviewing a candidate. Every day, you"re setting the direction for how security is built into how teams ship.

    About the team

Customer Service Application Security protects customer data for one of Amazon"s largest internal business units. We"re reimagining how security integrates with development, building intelligent automation that keeps customers safe while accelerating delivery.

We"re a collaborative team of security engineers, Technical Program Managers, and SDEs who move fast, value ownership, and invest heavily in each other"s growth. We bridge the gap between security and engineering by championing secure coding standards, building tools that reduce friction for developers, and embedding security early through guardrails and paved paths. We stay ahead through continuous research into emerging threats and new techniques and best practices.

Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
