Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior SAP BTP Platform Operations Engineer to own the reliability, security, and day-to-day operation of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) services in a FedRAMP-authorized environment. This person will serve as the lead service owner across the BTP portfolio, working with product, security, compliance, and architecture teams to maintain service availability and meet federal requirements.
Responsibilities
- Own operational performance, availability, security, and compliance across all BTP services and landscapes.
- Govern BTP global accounts, directories, subaccounts, entitlements, configurations, and platform extensions.
- Define and maintain operational standards, configuration baselines, change controls, documentation, and runbooks.
- Monitor service health and SLAs; lead incident response, root cause analysis, remediation, and follow-up actions.
- Develop and test business continuity and disaster recovery procedures for critical services.
- Plan and coordinate upgrades, patches, pre-production validation, and regression testing in line with SAP releases and federal change requirements.
- Review SAP security advisories and release notes to prioritize necessary changes.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Security, Compliance, business teams, and SAP support on platform issues and changes.
- Represent platform operations in change advisory boards, incident reviews, and governance meetings.
- Report service health, risks, upcoming upgrades, and compliance status to leadership; mentor junior engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience operating SAP BTP across multiple services and environments, or comparable large-scale enterprise platform experience.
- Experience working in a FedRAMP-authorized or equivalent federally secured cloud environment.
- Proven service ownership experience, including SLA accountability and incident management.
- Experience managing platform security, identity and access controls, and compliance documentation.
- Experience with enterprise ITSM processes, including incident, problem, and change management.
- Knowledge of Cloud Foundry architectures, Kubernetes fundamentals, and cloud networking concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAP BTP or SAP Integration Suite certification.
- Experience in a formal service owner or platform lead role.
- Familiarity with BTP identity and security tools such as XSUAA, Identity Authentication Service (IAS), Role Collections, and trust configuration.
- Experience with ServiceNow, federal monitoring tools, identity federation, OAuth 2.0, SAML, and zero-trust access principles.
- Experience supporting multi-tenant, microservice-based platforms in regulated environments.
