A Roadway Design Engineer creates, analyzes, and plans transportation infrastructure like highways, intersections, and bike lanes, ensuring projects are safe, efficient, and compliant with regulations. Key tasks include producing construction plans (drawings), calculating project costs and quantities, and using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or MicroStation) for geometric layout and design


Key Responsibilities


  • Design Development: Prepare and review detailed engineering plans, typical sections, alignments, profiles, and cross-sections for roadways.
  • Technical Analysis: Perform geometric design, drainage calculations, pavement design, and site investigations.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs follow local, state, and federal standards (e.g., DOT regulations).
  • Coordination: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (traffic, structural, environmental engineers) to ensure project cohesion.
  • Construction Support: Develop cost estimates, specifications, and project schedules, often providing technical support during construction.


Required Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 5-10 years of transportation engineering experience.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • License: Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
