    Description

Are you energized by the challenge of identifying, assessing, and mitigating complex risks at scale? Amazon is looking for a Risk Manager III to own and drive cross-functional risk programs that protect our customers and business. In this role, you will manage the full lifecycle of risk programs, partnering with legal, engineering, and business teams to design and implement controls, interpret regulatory requirements, and quantify risk reduction through data-driven metrics. You will balance competing priorities, navigate ambiguity, and translate complex risk landscapes into clear strategies and actionable plans that leadership can rally behind.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Own the development of data-driven risk intelligence initiatives end to end across multiple global risk domains in supply chain.
    • Partner with Product and Tech to develop Machine Learning models that detect and prioritize risk.
    • Identify priority risk areas and scope high-impact use cases, including in ambiguous spaces where no precedent exists.
    • Conduct data analysis and research to develop risk indicators that feed the models and shift detection from reactive and periodic to proactive and risk-based.
    • Deep-dive on available data sources, determine authoritative sources of truth across multiple systems, and trace data lineage and ownership.
    • Provide the risk and compliance judgment that models require, evaluating the reasoning behind model outputs, and validating that models identify genuine risk.
    • Assess the downstream impact of model-driven decisions, and how model outputs translate into risk-based action.
    • Work with operations teams to incorporate the Machine Learning solutions into operation workflow, transforming risk management from a reactive, periodic posture to a proactive, risk-based one.
    • Drive ongoing alignment of solutions with partners and stakeholders across Product, Tech, Operations, Finance, and Legal without direct authority.
    • Communicate risk intellgence insights and program progress to leadership and stakeholders at all levels.

    A day in the life

You will start your day reviewing risk metrics and control performance data, then shift into cross-functional meetings where you align stakeholders on program priorities and resolve open issues. You might spend the afternoon drafting a narrative for senior leadership that frames a newly identified risk alongside recommended mitigations, or evaluating whether a proposed control meets regulatory requirements. Expect to leverage generative AI tools to accelerate research and analysis while applying your judgment to refine outputs and ensure accuracy.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
