Serves as the operational lead for managing the intake, evaluation, routing, and documentation processes for the Technology Risk Assessment & Compliance Evaluation committee. This role will be divided into two broad categories: 1.) IRB Application navigation and development prior to submission to the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO), and 2.) Acting as a liaison between offices involved with the evaluation of Data Capturing and Artificial Technology assessments surrounding human subjects research protocols. This role will assist with the navigation of evaluating assessments submitted by researchers, staff, and external collaborators are evaluated efficiently and transparently, while maintaining compliance with university policies, Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI), Education and Training, and institutional goals.

This position will serve as a liaison between the academic technology governance team, Information Technology Office, General Counsel for Research, the University Privacy Office, Research Administrative Services Unit, and the HRPO/IRB, supporting risk mitigation, regulatory alignment, and coordinated communication among campus stakeholders and the research community. The IRB Navigator facilitates workflows, maintains records, drafts correspondence and reports, and guides submitters through the intake process. The Steward collaborates closely with IT, Legal, Research Compliance, Procurement, and Risk units to uphold the university's risk assessment and data governance standards.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, research administration, compliance, or related field

AND

  • Minimum 6years of experience in workflow coordination, compliance tracking, or technology review within a higher education, research, or corporate environment

OR

  • Minimum 6 years of experience working within academic governance, research compliance, or risk evaluation frameworks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in project management, data governance, or higher education leadership
  • Experience working in research-intensive institutions or academic medical centers
  • Knowledge of institutional research governance, procurement lifecycles, or grant workflows
  • Familiarity with technology risk scoring, rubric-based evaluation, or committee coordination
  • Certified IRB professional (CIP) certification is highly desirable or will be required once eligible.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage workflows, intake pipelines, and cross-functional processes
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, and IRB regulations
  • Ability to interpret and communicate institutional policy, legal guidelines, and technical documentation
  • Skilled in using workflow, intake, or ticketing systems (e.g., IRBManager, ServiceNow, Cayuse)
  • Proficiency in document management, status tracking, and recordkeeping
  • Capacity to manage timelines, coordinate meetings, and escalate issues when needed
  • Discretion in handling sensitive information and data classification
