Senior Quality Engineer

SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsofts over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsofts cloud business continues to grow, the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.

We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to lead hardware quality and reliability improvements across product design, supplier manufacturing, and data center deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams and task forces to improve cloud hardware quality across product design, manufacturing, and data center deployment, with a strong emphasis on Design for Quality and Reliability.
• Own product and supplier quality performance by establishing quality metrics, monitoring results, and driving corrective actions when targets are not met.
• Partner with engineering teams, operations, and suppliers to resolve complex technical issues through structured root-cause analysis, containment, mitigation, and permanent corrective action.
• Develop and execute supplier quality management strategies and controls that ensure consistent manufacturing quality and compliance with applicable standards.
• Identify systemic quality risks and lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen product reliability, manufacturing processes, and data center outcomes.
• Influence cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to align priorities, make data-driven decisions, and deliver measurable quality improvements.
• Model Microsoft culture and values while mentoring and developing team members to foster technical excellence, accountability, and innovation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:   

Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR 12+ years relevant technical engineering experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.   

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of experience working with modern computer hardware subsystems, including GPUs, CPUs, AI accelerators, memory, motherboards, and servers, as well as associated methods for hardware debugging and root-cause analysis.

Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
