Senior Pyroprocess Mechanical Engineer, Rotary Kiln Systems

    Location

    Allentown, PA

    About the role

At Fuller Technologies, you’ll join our Global Service Engineering team as the go-to expert for rotary kilns and related Pyro equipment serving the cement and heavy industrial sectors. Think of this as a hybrid of design authority, field problem-solver, and trusted advisor to our customers.

    A day in the life

In the morning, you might review a plant’s kiln shell ovality data and recommend a corrective plan. By midday, you’re refining a 3D model for a cooler upgrade in SolidWorks and validating supporting calculations. Later, you consult with Sales on a retrofit proposal, clarify client specifications, and wrap the day by planning a brief site visit to commission a rebuilt drive component. Your work spans the full lifecycle: assessment, design, documentation, approvals, site support, and continuous product improvement.

    What you’ll do

    • Own mechanical solutions for rotary kilns and other heavy Pyro/process machinery—rom upgrades and rebuilds to modernization and product enhancements.
    • Engineer aftermarket retrofits and equipment modifications that improve reliability, performance, and maintainability.
    • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and translate findings into clear corrective actions.
    • Create, review, and approve detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
    • Perform and peer-review mechanical calculations and complete design documentation packages.
    • Collaborate across Sales, Customer Service, Procurement, Manufacturing, and directly with customers to shape robust technical proposals.
    • Interpret customer specs and evaluate existing equipment to define the right technical path forward.
    • Support site activities: installation, commissioning, inspections, and on-site troubleshooting.
    • Champion standardization, value engineering, and continuous improvement across our product line.
    • Mentor colleagues and provide technical leadership within cross-functional teams.
    • Travel as needed for site work—pproximately 30 days per year.

    What you bring

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline).
    • Significant experience designing heavy industrial equipment.
    • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
    • Hands-on experience generating/reviewing drawings, equipment designs, and engineering calculations.
    • Background in aftermarket projects: retrofits, rebuilds, upgrades, and modernization.
    • Field exposure: troubleshooting, inspection, installation, or commissioning of industrial machinery.
    • Strong analytical judgment and customer-facing communication skills.
    • Comfort operating independently as a senior technical resource.

    Preferred

    • Cement industry background.
    • Experience with rotary kilns, industrial furnaces, rotary dryers, coolers, preheaters, combustion systems, or similar large rotating/process assets.
    • Exposure to mining, minerals processing, or bulk material handling equipment.
    • OEM or engineered-to-order (ETO) environment experience.
