Akkodis is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer, Design (Combustion Devices) for a Contract to Hire with a client in Denver, CO/Long Beach, CA. The ideal candidate with experience leading the design, development, and qualification of liquid rocket engine and thruster combustion systems to achieve high-performance and reliable space propulsion solutions.
Rate Range: $55/hour to $100/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Senior Propulsion Engineer, Design (Combustion Devices) Job Responsibilities include:
Lead the design, development, and qualification of combustion chambers, injectors, regenerative cooling circuits, nozzles, and propulsion flow systems for advanced space vehicle and satellite thrusters.
Perform propulsion system analysis, combustion performance evaluations, and trade studies to optimize engine efficiency, stability, reliability, and manufacturability.
Develop and validate regenerative cooling solutions, thermal management strategies, and structural designs to ensure performance across operational conditions.
Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and test organizations to support hardware builds, hot-fire testing, data analysis, and design improvements.
Utilize additive manufacturing technologies and high-temperature materials to develop innovative propulsion hardware and reduce system complexity.
Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, review engineering designs and drawings, and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the propulsion development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; master's degree preferred.
8+ years of professional experience in liquid rocket engine, thruster, or aerospace propulsion system design and development.
Strong expertise in combustion chamber, injector, nozzle, and regenerative cooling system design, with hands-on experience using propulsion analysis tools such as NASA CEA and supporting propulsion hardware testing.
Proven experience with additive manufacturing, high-temperature aerospace materials (Inconel, Haynes alloys), combustion stability analysis, GD&T, and leading propulsion component development from concept through qualification.

Pay Details: $55.00 to $100.00 per hour
