Are you passionate about using technology to save lives and prevent injuries? Do you want to lead the invention and construction of safety solutions that will protect hundreds of thousands of third-party drivers across Amazon"s vast middle mile and delivery networks? Amazon is building disruptive safety technology products with the vision of creating the safest middle mile and last mile delivery operations in the world. We are studying the safety needs of line haul and delivery drivers and building innovative, market-leading solutions that will fundamentally transform how we protect drivers on the road every day.

You will be both an entrepreneur and an operator who will plan and scale safety technology across the driver network. You will define the driver safety experience, partner with Tech, Engineering, Operations, Safety, Legal, and Compliance teams to design solutions that make for safer on road operations. You will thrive in ambiguity, building and communicating a clear approach and ensuring that we are delivering strong safety outcomes with each technology deployment that impacts on road operations. You will be expected to regularly display the following abilities: 1) High ownership and accountability for driver safety outcomes with the ability to plan and deliver on critical safety goals 2) Ability to navigate ambiguity with flexibility and decisiveness while balancing safety improvements with operational priorities 3) Skills to work across diverse stakeholders teams to communicate, convince and deliver for the goal and 4) Ability to think big on a vision for transformative driver safety technology while being rooted in constant execution and measurable safety improvements.

This is a highly visible and inherently critical role with room to innovate and solve key road safety challenges at scale. Strong experience designing and launching impactful products in a complex and cross-functional environment is necessary.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of safety challenges facing middle mile truck drivers and last mile delivery drivers, including vehicle safety, road safety, route optimization for driver protection, fatigue management, and incident prevention while monitoring new developments in driver safety technology and the regulatory landscape.
  • Define and own the driver safety product roadmap and strategy - develop the vision for implementing next-generation safety solutions including vehicle telematics, driver assistance systems, in-vehicle safety technology, predictive safety analytics, and real-time risk mitigation tools for drivers across all regions and operations.
  • Write and present compelling business cases (backed by strong research and driver safety data analysis) for safety technology investments in partnership with all stakeholder teams
  • Partner with Tech, Operations, Engineering, Safety, Compliance, and Legal teams to design customer backward safety experiences that protect drivers in Amazon"s delivery network.
  • Own end-to-end product development from requirements to launch - write business requirement specifications, monitor project execution, and ensure delivery is to the appropriate levels of quality and safety standards.
  • Monitor and report on driver safety metrics and KPIs to senior leadership across Amazon, as related to the safety products being developed and deployed - track driver incident rates, near-miss events, safety technology adoption, and demonstrate measurable improvements in driver safety across middle mile and last mile operations.
  • Drive adoption of safety features across the third-party driver network - ensure that safety solutions are effectively planned, implemented and utilized by drivers across thousands of line haul routes and delivery routes
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other regulatory requirements while staying ahead of evolving driver safety regulations
  • Manage complex, multi-stakeholder programs with compressed timelines - be tenacious and find creative approaches to meet deadlines and delivery the product roadmap.
  • Create clear, effective written communication to present decision points or data-based arguments that enable delivering on driver safety goals. Communicate to diverse audiences ranging from technical teams to senior leadership.
