We are seeking a Senior Plumbing Designer to join our progressive engineering team in Austin. Core Responsibilities
System Architecture & Integration: Lead the design and coordination of sophisticated plumbing systems, including domestic water, waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, and high-stakes medical gas systems.
Technical Engineering & Analysis: Perform and document rigorous hydraulic calculations (fixture units, pipe sizing, water heating loads, and gas flow) to ensure optimal system performance and code compliance.
High-Fidelity BIM Production: Drive the development of detailed construction documents, drawings, and specifications within the Revit environment, maintaining the highest standards of technical accuracy.
Multidisciplinary Synergy: Collaborate seamlessly with architects and mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers to integrate complex plumbing systems into the overall building fabric.
Regulatory Authority: Act as the subject matter expert on local plumbing codes, industry standards, and healthcare-specific regulations to ensure every project meets or exceeds legal and safety requirements.
Project Stewardship: Conduct site observations and field visits to verify that installations align with design plans, proactively identifying and resolving complex field issues during construction.
Client Communication: Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to communicate design intent, budget considerations, and sustainable alternatives to clients and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or technical field preferred.
Experience: 7+ years of dedicated experience in plumbing design within a consulting engineering or AEC environment.
Software Proficiency: Expert-level command of Revit and professional familiarity with engineering calculation software.
Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of plumbing codes (IPC/UPC), regulations, and industry-standard design practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desired.
Certification: Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) or Certified Plumbing Design Technician (CPDT) credential.
Specialized Expertise: Proven experience in Healthcare design (medical gas systems) and Fire Protection system sizing/code requirements.
Sustainability: Familiarity with LEED standards and sustainable water-saving technologies.
