Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Plant Accountant to serve as the primary on-site finance professional within a manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for plant-level accounting, product costing, inventory management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. The role partners closely with operations leadership to provide financial insights, improve processes, and support sound business decisions. Job Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

  • Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials and finished goods within the ERP system.Perform manufacturing cost analysis, including material, labor, overhead, and production variances.

  • Develop and maintain product cost models and analyze unit economics.

    Monitor production yields, waste, and scrap to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Reconcile inventory accounts, support physical inventories, and maintain cycle count programs.

  • Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory and recommend reserve adjustments. 

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead monthly and quarterly close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and prepaid expenses.

    Prepare plant-level financial statements and management reports.
    Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.

    Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
    Support internal and external audits.

    Coordinate with shared services teams regarding AP, AR, and account coding matters.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budgeting activities, including labor, production, materials, energy, and capital planning.

    Prepare rolling forecasts and explain budget-to-actual variances.

    Develop financial models to support operational decisions and cost reduction initiatives.

    Provide cost analysis to support pricing, product launches, and business decisions

     

    Systems & Process Improvement

    Serve as the finance lead for ERP cost accounting and inventory modules.

  • Partner with IT and shared services to improve data integrity and reporting.

  • Build dashboards, reports, and analytical tools to streamline financial processes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

4+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience with cost accounting, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.

Knowledge of standard costing and overhead allocation methods.

Experience using ERP systems in manufacturing environments.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and data analysis.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA or CMA certification, or progress toward certification.

Experience working within a shared services environment.

Experience in a newly established or growing manufacturing operation.

Familiarity with intercompany accounting and corporate reporting structures.
