Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Piping Designer to join their team in Portland, OR on a contract-to-hire basis. This position is ideal for a highly experienced piping designer with strong Revit skills and a background in industrial facilities.
As a Senior-Level Revit Piping Designer, you will independently develop piping designs, lead portions of project scope, and coordinate directly with engineers and other disciplines. You will provide technical input related to operability, model quality, and design standards while supporting workshare execution and contributing to estimating and change-management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently develop piping designs and layouts using Revit for industrial projects.
- Lead assigned portions of project scope and manage design tasks with general oversight.
- Develop and maintain accurate piping models and construction documentation.
- Interpret and incorporate information from P&IDs, vendor drawings, equipment drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Coordinate piping layouts and designs with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and other project disciplines.
- Evaluate equipment interfaces, piping arrangements, access requirements, and overall system operability.
- Apply project-specific piping specifications, materials, standards, and design criteria.
- Provide technical input regarding piping routing, constructability, model quality, and design standards.
- Identify and resolve design and modeling issues while maintaining overall model integrity.
- Participate in model health reviews, design reviews, and QA/QC processes.
- Support workshare activities and coordinate design deliverables with team members in multiple locations.
- Assist with project estimating, scope development, and change-management discussions as needed.
- Provide guidance and technical support to less-experienced designers.
- Help maintain consistency, accuracy, and quality across piping models and project deliverables.
- Manage assigned design activities to meet project schedules and quality requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Design Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience with 2+ additional years of relevant experience.
- 10+ years of piping design experience in industrial environments such as:
- Oil & Gas
- Chemical
- Pharmaceutical
- Semiconductor
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on Revit experience focused on piping design and modeling.
- Strong understanding of piping specifications, materials, equipment interfaces, and piping layout fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, vendor drawings, equipment documentation, and engineering drawings/specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with general oversight while managing assigned design responsibilities.
- Strong communication and coordination skills in a multi-disciplinary project environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail, particularly regarding model and drawing accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
- Experience designing piping systems for semiconductor facilities.
- Working knowledge of pipe stress considerations and their impact on piping routing and support design.
- Experience with QA/QC workflows, model health reviews, and specification-driven design.
- Advanced Revit capabilities, including family/part development, troubleshooting, and model management.
- Previous leadership experience within piping design teams.
- Experience overseeing model consistency, design standards, and deliverable quality.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical direction to junior and mid-level designers.
