Job Title - Senior Oracle DBA
Location: Research Triangle Park, NC 27709 – Hybrid
Duration: 12 Months
 
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Oracle DBA to manage, optimize, and support Oracle database environments hosted on Oracle Exadata and Linux platforms within AWS cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Oracle database administration, performance tuning, database design, replication, and high-availability solutions.
This role will have ownership of application schemas, database structures, extensions, and ongoing database support across development, test, and production environments. The DBA will collaborate closely with application development teams on modernization initiatives and ensure database solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and optimized for high-volume workloads.
 
Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain Oracle database environments across development, test, and production.
  • Administer Oracle databases running on Exadata and Linux within AWS environments.
  • Design, implement, and manage application schemas, tables, indexes, database structures, and extensions.
  • Collaborate with application developers to define data requirements and support SQL development and optimization.
  • Support application modernization initiatives by developing scalable and reliable database solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance, configuration, availability, and connectivity issues.
  • Perform database and SQL performance tuning for high-volume workloads.
  • Monitor and optimize Exadata storage-layer performance and database resources.
  • Administer Oracle Data Guard configurations for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Implement and manage Oracle GoldenGate and other database replication solutions.
  • Perform Oracle database backups, restores, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Install and maintain Oracle Database software and Exadata-related components.
  • Monitor database environments using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) or Cloud Control.
  • Troubleshoot issues across Oracle databases, Linux operating systems, and Exadata storage components.
  • Develop and maintain database administration procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Work closely with development, infrastructure, and application teams to improve database scalability and reliability.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide weekend support as required.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with Oracle Exadata architecture, including storage cells, InfiniBand networking, Smart Scan, and Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC).
  • 5+ years of experience managing Oracle ASM, including monitoring and managing ASM disk groups.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience installing, patching, and upgrading Oracle Database software and related components, including Exadata patches, PSU/DBRU, and Release Updates.
  • 2+ years of experience with Oracle database and Exadata storage-layer performance tuning.
  • 7+ years of experience designing database schemas, access patterns, indexes, locking strategies, and tuning Oracle databases.
  • 7+ years of experience troubleshooting complex issues across Oracle database, Linux OS, and Exadata storage components.
  • 2+ years of experience using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) or Cloud Control for monitoring and diagnostics.
  • 7+ years of strong SQL development and optimization experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Data Guard for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Strong experience with Oracle GoldenGate or comparable database replication technologies.
  • Strong experience supporting Oracle databases in AWS/cloud environments.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and weekend support.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale, high-volume Oracle database environments.
  • Experience with Oracle database migration and application modernization initiatives.
  • Experience designing highly available and scalable database architectures.
  • Strong understanding of Oracle database architecture and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience working with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish database standards, procedures, and operational best practices.
