Forte Group is looking for a Senior .NET Developer to join our team. Our client is a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited clinical reference laboratory with approximately 400 employees, processing hundreds of thousands of medical specimens annually across 13 states in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and South. Serving physicians, clinics, hospitals, and patients, the laboratory provides comprehensive medical testing, molecular diagnostics, and pathology services. You will join a growing 6-person engineering team to build and expand mission-critical applications supporting laboratory operations, including specimen tracking systems managing thousands of specimens daily, data entry platforms ensuring accuracy in test orders and results, and integrations with healthcare provider EMR systems.
Core Technology Stack
Required - the work centers on .NET and cross-platform development:
- .NET Core, C#
- MAUI (cross-platform desktop/macOS applications)
- Entity Framework Core (data access, ORM)
- SQL Server (primary database)
- Blazor (web applications)
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Git and version control
- Relational database design and SQL
Strongly Preferred - commonly used on this engagement:
- Python (data pipelines)
- HL7 messaging and healthcare system integrations
- ASTM integrations (laboratory instrument communication)
- Legacy system integration and modernization
- Crater Stack or Postgres (one large project uses this)
- FHIR APIs (coming in development roadmap)
- AI-powered PDF data extraction
What Youll Do
- Build and maintain Maui Blazor Hybrid applications for desktop and macOS platforms, expanding existing specimen tracking systems and developing new data entry and integration capabilities.
- Design and implement clean, maintainable code with deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and architectural trade-offs.
- Expand the specimen tracking program - a high-volume system already in production, with growing scope requiring additional engineering resources.
- Develop full-stack data entry applications integrating with legacy systems, handling test order management, result reporting, and AI-powered document extraction.
- Implement Entity Framework Core data access layers with performance optimization and proper database schema design.
- Integrate with healthcare standards (HL7 messaging, ASTM instrument communication) and legacy laboratory information systems.
- Understand, read, and improve existing codebase - not just write new features, but enhance and maintain whats already running in production.
- Collaborate with distributed team on technical decisions, code quality, and system design - all communication in English, primarily asynchronous.
- Participate in technical interviews and help evaluate candidates using algorithmic problem-solving assessments.
Must-Have Profile
- 5+ years of .NET / C# development experience
- Hands-on Maui experience (or very strong cross-platform framework background: WPF, Xamarin, React Native with clear path to Maui)
- Solid Entity Framework Core expertise
- Strong algorithmic and data structure fundamentals - can solve coding problems, understand efficiency, and explain your approach
- Clean code principles - write readable, maintainable code that others can understand and improve
- SQL and relational database design experience
- Demonstrable problem-solving ability - can take an ambiguous problem, think through it, and propose a solution
- Excellent English fluency, both written and spoken - comfortable in technical discussions and async collaboration
- Proactive and self-directed - can own problems and drive solutions with minimal hand-holding
Nice to Have
- Blazor web framework experience
- Python (for data pipeline work)
- HL7 or healthcare system integration experience
- ASTM instrument integration background
- Performance optimization and query tuning expertise
- Experience reading and improving legacy code
- Crater Stack or Postgres experience
- Offline-first application architecture
