Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.
Bald Mountain is an important contributor to the economy of northeastern Nevada and maintains a comprehensive environmental strategy including wildlife protection, habitat recovery and education.
Job Summary
Responsible for carrying out a full range of engineering functions including but not limited to; development of an accurate mine plan, evaluating assumptions and production rates, pit design updates, analyzing equipment needs, managing multiple projects, creation of alternative mine plans and scenarios, and evaluation of various options with the goal of maximizing revenue in alignment with developed Forecasts, Budget and Life of Mine plans and schedules. Must show the ability and willingness to supervise, manage performance and development of department personnel. Will have direct involvement and integration with staff from all departments. Will integrate across the mining value chain to ensure optimal; utilization of resources and personnel; and maximize productivity. Qualified candidates may be eligible for both a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
Essential Functions
Develop and/or oversee short-term (daily, weekly and monthly) plans based on reserve and ore control models, production budgets, and forecasts.
Generate medium term and forecast mine plans in coordination with other departments as required, ensuring alignment with the overall budget plan.
Provide input for long-term and LOM plan coordination.
Mentor and develop direct reports to ensure optimal performance of the section.
Manage performance of direct reports and identify opportunities for maximizing strengths and for areas of development.
Evaluate alternative designs and mine plans based on various operational scenarios with the goal of maximizing productivity and revenue.
Conduct equipment studies to verify that planned production goals can be met.
Make recommendations for opportunities that maximize efficiency and productivity of the entire operation.
Complete federal and state permit compliance reports or documentation as required.
Represent the company in requests for bids for capital earthwork and site construction jobs.
Design or generate maps, as-built, bench plans, cross-sections, or permit drawings as required.
Monitor monthly production. Provide current pit topography from monthly mine advance surveys or aerial surveys.
Integrate with up and downstream disciplines and processes to ensure consideration in planning and reconciliation processes.
Coordinate interdepartmental activities that directly impact daily production targets.
Generate mine planning and project management monthly summaries for use in company reporting.
Provide support, as needed, to other departments on monthly reporting.
Review designs of dumps, access roads, ramps, and mine site facilities.
Project management duties, including, but not limited to; assisting with operational and capital project teams as required.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements
BS Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Minimum of five years of experience in an open pit mining environment preferred.
Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to pit design, mine planning, equipment analysis, and project management.
Thorough understanding of open-pit mining operations as well as a general understanding of heap leaching process and mine maintenance.
Working knowledge of one or more computer-aided mine design and scheduling software packages (MineSight, Deswik, or Vulcan etc.)
Proficiency in MS Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience in supervising and developing personnel is preferred.
Have a strong commitment to safe working practices.
Possess good interpersonal skills.
Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
Strong administrative and organizational skills desired.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
May work on rotational basis, holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.
