Senior Microsoft SQL Developer / Microservices Technical Lead

The consultant will work with PM/Scrum Master, SMEs, developers, QA, DevOps, Cloud, and other stakeholders to help decompose a monolithic database into microservice-aligned schemas and support application modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, NET/C#, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory (ADF), database modernization, and technical leadership .

We are seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Developer / Microservices Technical Lead to support a tolling modernization program.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, .NET/C#, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory (ADF), database modernization, and technical leadership.

The consultant will work with PM/Scrum Master, SMEs, developers, QA, DevOps, Cloud, and other stakeholders to help decompose a monolithic database into microservice-aligned schemas and support application modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical design discussions for microservices, database restructuring, and API integrations.
• Perform hands-on SQL Server development, including:
  • Schema modernization
  • Stored procedures
  • Views
  • Indexing
  • Query optimization
  • Performance tuning
• Support .NET/C# backend and API development as needed.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams.
• Collaborate with SMEs and project leadership on architecture and delivery decisions.
• Build migration logic and ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Align SQL modernization with microservice boundaries and migration timelines.
• Participate in code reviews and technical documentation reviews.
• Collaborate across SQL, .NET, BA, QA, DevOps, Cloud, and CAB teams.
• Support PCI, data retention, audit, and secure data-handling requirements.
• Participate in Agile delivery activities and project execution.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of overall IT experience.
• 7+ years of Microsoft SQL Server development experience.
• 5+ years of .NET / C# backend development experience.
• 3 5 years of technical lead experience.
• 3+ years of modernization or migration project experience.
• 3+ years of Azure SQL experience in IaaS VM environments.
• 3+ years of experience building Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines and supporting ETL workloads.
• 3+ years working with Agile delivery teams.
• Strong experience with:

• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of state government or transportation industry experience.
• 2+ years in regulated or audited environments.
• 2+ years of exposure to microservices architecture.
• Experience with PCI or other compliance-driven environments.
