Our client, a leading nonprofit behavioral health organization serving NYC communities since 1968, is hiring a Senior Medical Director, Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine to provide enterprise-wide clinical leadership and strategic oversight. This pivotal role is designed to shape and elevate the organization’s medical and behavioral health services, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and standardized care across multiple sites and programs. The Senior Medical Director will drive clinical governance, develop internal capacity, and foster integration of behavioral health and primary care, making a lasting impact on underserved populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead a centralized Medical Affairs structure, standardizing policies, protocols, and clinical governance across all programs.
  • Supervise licensed medical staff, including medical directors, nurse practitioners, and other providers, supporting recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Lead clinical quality improvement initiatives, oversee medication management, including controlled substances and MAT services, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards (OASAS, OMH, Medicaid).
  • Develop and implement clinical SOPs, training programs, and oversight mechanisms to ensure consistency and compliance in care delivery.
  • Conduct clinical audits, incident reviews, and corrective actions to mitigate risks and enhance patient safety.
  • Provide direct clinical care when needed, offering support for complex case reviews and serving as a clinical resource within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align medical services with organizational strategy, focusing on operational efficiency, patient outcomes, and access to care.
  • Full-time, in-person position based in Bronx, NY, with travel to various sites.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree with active, unrestricted New York State medical license and DEA certification.
  • Board certification in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, or a related specialty preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years clinical experience, with at least 3–5 years in leadership roles overseeing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong background in behavioral health/substance use, OASAS, Article 31 programs, and integrated care models.
  • Proven experience in regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and building internal clinical capacity.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to create organizational accountability and lead change effectively.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and strategic planning abilities.
