OVERVIEW:

Merrick is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer for several upcoming shipbuilding facility projects. This senior engineer will be the Onsite Support Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding and will function as part of a team that plans, designs and oversees the construction of new and/or expanded shipbuilding facilities. This position will be initially located at our client site in Newport News, Virginia, not at a Merrick office. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Act as the owner's engineer, supporting NNS facilities maintenance and assisting the utility engineering team.
  • Evaluate maintenance notifications by reviewing documentation and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including Technical Work Instructions (TWI).
  • Conduct studies and analysis for emergent tasks as they arise.
  • Assist with maintenance tasks to support testing, troubleshooting, and resolving system problems, as well as making configuration changes.
  • Provide onsite technical support and guidance, including reviewing drawings, designs, and other technical documents for quality and code compliance.
  • Inspect onsite infrastructure related to facilities and utilities to ensure proper functioning and adherence to standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ten (10) plus years of mechanical industrial facility engineering experience.
  • Client projects require U.S. Citizenship.
  • Mechanical utility distribution systems and plants.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of piping principles, centrifugal pumps, and water distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ASHRAE, and ACGIH, etc. standards.
  • Experience with heavy industrial mechanical systems.
  • HVAC, Chilled water, and Industrial Process Ventilation.
