This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.As part of atalentedand hardworking team of engineers, you willwork on designing and developing keymechanicalground systems for Blue Origin’s launch site at LC-36 (Cape Canaveral, FL). You’ll have the unique opportunity to be part of a great team building thegroundmechanical and structural systems and GSE (Ground Support Equipment) for Blue Origin’s giant rockets, New Glennand New Glenn 9x4!
Responsibilities:
Serve as technical lead for majormechanicalsystems,mentor junior staff,drive design standards and best practices.
Define and drivemechanicaldesignsolutionsforlargemechanicalsystems/mechanisms.
Lead,perform, and reviewFEA and hand-calcs forcomplexmechanicalsystems.
Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle, and oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, installation,andtesting & activation.
MinimumQualifications(required):
Minimum of aBachelor’s degree inMechanicalEngineering,or similar disciplines.
10+years experiencewith astrongbackground indesign/analysis/constructionoflarge and complexmechanicalsystems (e.g.launch vehicle GSEandmechanisms, aerospace tooling, oil&gasmechanical systems, etc).
Demonstrated experience leading mechanical designsfrom concept through commissioning.
Mechanical design experience using CADtools.
Mechanicalanalysisexperience usingFEA tools.
Proficiency in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Experience in heavy duty mechanism design (e.g. locking/clamps mechanisms, linkage design, quick release systems, alignment mechanisms, restraint/catch systems, etc).
Experienceindesigning and analyzing boltedand weldedconnections, mechanical interfaces, and load-bearing joints in precision assemblies.
Experience analyzing mechanical systems under dynamic loading conditions including vibration, shock, and fatigue.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
