Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Lead mechanical design of next-generation X-ray source and detector products. Develop vacuum assemblies, pressure vessels, shielding, thermal management, and opto-mechanical systems. Create 3D CAD models, drawings, technical documentation, and manufacturing release packages. Perform tolerance analyses, DFM/DFA reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA activities. Support prototype builds, product qualification, environmental testing, and production launches. Serve as technical owner for released products, supporting manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers. Investigate field failures, production issues, and customer returns; drive root cause analysis and corrective actions. Manage engineering changes and implement product performance, reliability, and cost improvements. Design and develop manufacturing fixtures, test equipment, assembly tooling, and automated test systems. Support equipment validation, process improvements, yield enhancement, and manufacturing throughput initiatives. Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, quality, supply chain, electrical engineering, and global engineering teams. Mentor junior engineers and technicians while supporting project planning and technical execution. Participate in supplier qualification, vendor reviews, and quality system compliance activities.

A successful Senior Mechanical Engineer should have: BS in Mechanical Engineering required; MS preferred. 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development and manufacturing. Proven success bringing products from concept through production. Proficiency with SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar 3D CAD platforms. Strong knowledge of mechanical design, materials selection, thermal management, structural analysis, and manufacturing processes. Experience designing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and test equipment. Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and product qualification. Strong root cause analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Effective communicator with experience working across engineering and manufacturing teams. Experience with vacuum systems, high-voltage products, scientific instrumentation, or radiation detection technologies is a plus. FEA, reliability engineering, and Lean/Six Sigma experience preferred. Ability to leverage AI tools to improve engineering productivity and decision-making.
