Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of precision CNC grinding equipment. This position offers hands-on ownership of complex machinery projects, from initial concept and detailed engineering through assembly, testing, and commissioning. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide junior engineers, and develop mechanical solutions that improve machine accuracy, reliability, and performance while meeting customer expectations and project deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design projects for precision CNC grinding machines, translating customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Design complex mechanical systems and components, including spindles, bearings, linear motion systems, dressing mechanisms, and machine structures.
- Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
- Apply engineering analysis and simulation techniques to evaluate component performance, structural integrity, and durability.
- Improve machine precision and efficiency by addressing thermal behavior, vibration, component longevity, and overall system performance.
- Coordinate design reviews and communicate technical concepts, project progress, and engineering decisions to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with electrical and applications engineers to ensure proper integration of mechanical systems, CNC controls, and machine functionality.
- Oversee prototype development, assembly, and testing, incorporating findings into design refinements.
- Provide technical troubleshooting during machine assembly, installation, commissioning, and field service activities.
- Mentor junior engineers, review technical drawings, and promote sound engineering practices and design standards.
- Coordinate with purchasing, suppliers, and customers to resolve technical issues and support project execution.
- Develop project schedules, manage engineering deliverables, and maintain progress against cost and delivery targets.
- Identify opportunities to simplify manufacturing, reduce equipment costs, improve quality, and streamline engineering processes.
- Travel to customer and supplier locations as needed.
