Avo Photonics is a dynamic contract engineering services company that designs, develops and manufactures custom opto-electronic products for a large customer base. Members of our staff have the opportunity to design, prototype and produce next generation products for a diverse range of markets including environmental, medical, military, industrial, aerospace, and communications.
We seek a diligent, dedicated and meticulous person who will help to further our success and reputation in the industry through world-class customer service. The successful candidate must plan his/her own work schedule, keep multiple records, be self-motivated, maintain a professional presence, and have the desire to take ownership of projects.
Specifically:
Critically review customer's opto-mechanical design requirements. Provide feedback, clarify open questions until requirements are understood.
Assess if information provided is compatible with the budgeted hours and schedule. Clarify any perceived technical, budget, or schedule challenges with Program Manager.
Critically review positional tolerances required by the developed optical design.
Develop mechanical design that meets optical design and system level requirements, and results in a cost-effective, manufacturable, and high process yield product.
If necessary, collaborate with Optical Engineer to iteratively refine the product. Perform tolerance analyses and thermal modeling as needed.
Collaborate with Product System and Process Engineers to ensure the product efficiently utilizes Avo's manufacturing capabilities.
Support Product System and Process Engineers in designing fixtures for manufacturing.
Prepare technical presentations and participate in internal and external design reviews. Explain and defend design decisions made.
Ensure assigned work remains within the budgeted hours and schedule.
Participate in internal design reviews by critically reviewing other optomechanical designs and providing recommendations for design improvements to improve yield, material cost, reduce assembly labor.
Provide feedback on selected cost proposal developments as needed.
Provide mentorship to other Engineers in deriving a product design, and guide assembly and test stations that yield a manufacturable, high yield, and economical way to meet the product requirements.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
8 years of professional work experience, photonics industry preferred
Expert in using SolidWorks software
In-Depth knowledge of thermo-mechanical properties of materials used in design
Demonstrated ability to perform various thermal and structural analyses (e.g. shock/vibe)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Attributes: High attention to detail, personable, motivated, willing to take initiative, and strong observation skills
