Mechanical Design Engineers will contribute to equipment design, CAD modeling, documentation, and project execution, while Senior Mechanical Design Engineers will take greater ownership of complex projects, lead mechanical design efforts, and support other engineers. Whether you're an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to expand your technical expertise or a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer ready to take ownership of complex projects, this is an opportunity to contribute to the development of custom industrial automation systems.
Salary: $85,000–$110,000 per year (depending on experience and qualifications)
Travel: Approximately 10%, including occasional overnight stays for customer installations
ABOUT US:
We are an established industrial automation and engineering company specializing in custom automation equipment and process control systems. Our multidisciplinary team combines mechanical engineering, robotics, controls, and manufacturing expertise to develop tailored solutions for complex production needs
From initial design through fabrication, assembly, installation, and ongoing support, we provide engineers with the opportunity to work on challenging projects and see their designs come to life in real-world manufacturing environments
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This role involves designing, developing, and supporting custom industrial automation machinery throughout the project lifecycle
The position is open to candidates with varying levels of experience. Mechanical Design Engineers will contribute to equipment design, CAD modeling, documentation, and project execution, while Senior Mechanical Design Engineers will take greater ownership of complex projects, lead mechanical design efforts, and support other engineers
Qualified candidates should have a solid understanding of mechanical design principles, electro-mechanical equipment, and manufacturing processes. Experience with custom industrial automation machinery is highly valued
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use SolidWorks CAD software extensively to develop mechanical designs for custom automation equipment
Develop conceptual designs and translate engineering requirements into practical mechanical solutions
Create detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies for custom machinery and equipment
Prepare manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Identify and specify purchased components from vendors and prepare purchasing schedules for procurement
Enter and maintain project information in the E2 Shop Tech Scheduler
Support project planning, coordination, and execution, with opportunities to manage projects based on experience
Strong technical leadership, project management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to independently lead complex mechanical design projects and support other engineers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
SolidWorks certifications, such as CSWP or CSWE
Experience designing both robotics and hard automation systems
Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and related controls
Ability to lead mechanical design projects from concept through installation
Understanding of industrial automation and controls components
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and equipment problem-solving skills
Experience taking custom automation designs through manufacturing, assembly, testing, and installation
Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates will be evaluated based on their experience, technical capabilities, and the level of responsibility they can take on
The following qualifications are particularly important:
Strong SolidWorks CAD proficiency, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings
Experience with custom automation machinery, industrial equipment, or electro-mechanical systems
Understanding of the mechanical design process, including manufacturing and assembly requirements
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and assembly teams
For senior-level candidates, demonstrated ownership of substantial projects throughout the full mechanical design lifecycle
Willingness to work onsite in Schertz, TX
Willingness to travel approximately 10%, including occasional overnight stays for customer installations
Project Experience Expectations:
For senior-level candidates, substantial experience delivering complex custom automation projects is important. The ideal candidate will have completed approximately 21–30 or more significant projects, demonstrating the ability to manage complex designs rather than primarily handling numerous small or limited-scope assignments
For Mechanical Design Engineer candidates, project experience will be evaluated based on technical complexity, individual contributions, and demonstrated design capabilities
INTERVIEW PROCESS:
Candidates who meet the qualifications will proceed through a structured interview process
First Interview – Phone Screening: An initial phone interview to discuss the candidate's experience, technical background, project history, and overall fit for the position
Second Interview – Team Interview: Candidates advancing to the second round will meet with engineering and team members for a more detailed discussion of their technical experience, design capabilities, and previous projects
SolidWorks Evaluation: Candidates advancing to the second-round interview will complete a SolidWorks skills evaluation to assess their practical CAD capabilities and proficiency with the software
