Description

Lead Mechanical Engineer For Packaging Machinery

Job Description

Lead the mechanical redesign and modernization of existing packaging machinery platforms.
Develop standardized, scalable machine architectures that improve flexibility, reliability, and maintainability.
Design innovative mechanical systems including motion mechanisms, sealing systems, product handling equipment, and automation components.
Create detailed 3D CAD models, production drawings, and engineering documentation.
Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, and material selection for demanding sanitary manufacturing environments.
Champion hygienic design principles, ensuring equipment meets food production and washdown requirements.
Collaborate with controls, automation, manufacturing, quality, and service teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Lead prototype development, machine testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct root cause investigations and implement engineering solutions that improve machine performance.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and technical leadership initiatives.

The Successful Applicant

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline.
10+ years of mechanical design experience within packaging machinery, industrial automation, or food processing equipment.
Strong proficiency using 3D CAD software, preferably Inventor.
Proven experience with machine design including frames, pneumatics, filling systems, sealing systems, and automated equipment.
Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and designing for manufacturability.
Experience designing equipment for sanitary, food-grade, or washdown environments.
Familiarity with 3-A, USDA, or similar hygienic equipment standards.
Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous product improvement.
Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, sheet metal design, and mechanical tolerancing.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
