Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Workday Financials Product Owner with deep experience across Workday Financial Management, particularly within Foundation Data Model, Financial Accounting, General Ledger, and Financial Reporting.
This person will own the day-to-day direction and continuous improvement of the Workday Financials platform, partnering closely with Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, IT, and business stakeholders. The right individual will be comfortable getting into the system, evaluating current configuration, cleaning up process and reporting issues, and translating finance needs into practical, scalable Workday solutions.
This is a highly hands-on role for someone who can improve the current environment while also helping shape the longer-term roadmap for Workday Financials.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Serve as the product owner and hands-on subject matter expert for Workday Financials, with a focus on FDM, General Ledger, Financial Accounting, and Financial Reporting
- Evaluate the current Workday Financials setup and identify opportunities to simplify configuration, improve usability, and better align the system to accounting processes
- Lead hands-on improvements across FDM, worktags, ledgers, financial accounting, reporting, and core finance processes
- Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, and IT to understand business needs and translate them into Workday configuration, enhancements, and reporting solutions
- Support core accounting processes within Workday, including close, reconciliations, controls, and financial reporting
- Optimize areas such as Expenses and procure to pay where current processes, approvals, or configuration may be creating friction
- Own prioritization of Workday Financials enhancements, defects, reporting needs, and process improvements
- Help define and execute a practical roadmap for ongoing Workday Financials improvements, including adoption of new Workday capabilities and automation
- Support governance across worktags, financial data, approvals, reporting, and system controls to drive consistency and compliance
- Build, enhance, and oversee reporting, dashboards, and financial insights within Workday
- Partner with internal teams and external partners as needed, while remaining hands-on in the system and close to the work
- Support Workday release planning, feature evaluation, testing, and adoption for Financials-related functionality
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on experience with Workday Financials, especially FDM, General Ledger, Financial Accounting, and Financial Reporting
- Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and improve Workday Financials without relying heavily on outside support
- Solid accounting knowledge and a clear understanding of how finance processes should operate within Workday
- Experience stepping into Workday environments that need cleanup, simplification, optimization, or better governance
- Strong understanding of worktags, financial data structure, accounting flows, reporting requirements, and controls
- Experience partnering with Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, IT, and business stakeholders
- Ability to connect accounting and finance requirements to system design, configuration, reporting, and process decisions
- Experience supporting or improving close, reconciliations, financial reporting, approvals, expenses, or procure to pay processes
- Comfort balancing day-to-day system work, stakeholder requests, enhancement prioritization, and longer-term platform planning
- Familiarity with Workday releases, new features, automation capabilities, and continuous improvement practices
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with finance leaders and technical teams
Ideal Profile
The ideal candidate is not just a people leader or roadmap owner. This person should be a true hands-on Workday Financials practitioner who can own the platform, understand the accounting impact of configuration decisions, and help the business get more value from Workday.
They should be comfortable asking the right questions, getting into the details, fixing issues, improving reporting, and driving practical enhancements that make Workday easier and more effective for Finance.
