    Description

    Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. In this role you will help strengthen the analytical systems used to identify, measure, and manage fraud and financial-crime risk.

As part of Model Risk Oversight, you will lead independent validation of quantitative Fraud and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) models and provide effective challenges to the methodologies, assumptions, data, and performance evidence supporting important risk decisions.

We are seeking a specialist for a Senior Manager role (individual contributor) who combines deep quantitative judgment with practical leadership. This quantitative role is well suited for an experienced model-risk professional who can move confidently between mathematical analysis, regulatory expectations, business context, and clear executive communication. You will work with model developers, data scientists, compliance partners, risk managers, and senior leaders to identify material limitations and drive sound, defensible outcomes.

    What you will do:

    • Lead independent validation of Fraud and AML models, including fraud detection, transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment, alert prioritization, and related financial-crime applications.
    • Evaluate conceptual soundness, data quality, implementation accuracy, model performance, assumptions, limitations, monitoring, and compensating controls.
    • Design and execute independent testing, benchmarking, replication, sensitivity, stability, and segment-level analysis using Python, R, SQL, or comparable tools.
    • Write clear evidence-based reports, communicate findings to senior stakeholders, and partner constructively with model owners while maintaining independent judgment.

Please note: This position is M-F during standard business hours with a hybrid work model (4 days in-office, 1 day working from home). It is only available in the areas listed. Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate on their own to one of the listed areas. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.

    What you have

    Required qualifications:

    • 8+ years in model development or validation, quantitative risk, financial services, consulting, or a related analytical field, with hands-on experience in fraud, AML, sanctions, KYC, or related financial-crime models.
    • A bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline.
    • Strong command of the mathematics, statistics, and model-performance concepts used in Fraud/AML models, including regression, classification, sampling, optimization, and evaluation of predictive or decision models.
    • Experience conducting model validation or independent review, including conceptual soundness, data assessment, implementation testing, outcomes analysis, benchmarking, sensitivity testing, and ongoing monitoring.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Proficiency with Python, R, SQL, or similar tools, with strong written communication, project leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to explain technical issues clearly to senior and non-technical audiences.
    • Knowledge of model risk management expectations, including SR26-2, SR 11-7.
    • Experience validating machine-learning models and assessing explainability, data representativeness, bias, stability, and performance under changing conditions.
    • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline.
    • Experience mentoring quantitative professionals or directing complex analytical engagements.
