Position Overview
Our client, a well-established organization operating within a larger global business, is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead the financial management and accounting operations of a multi-site U.S. manufacturing and processing division.
This is a broad-based Finance leadership opportunity with responsibility for overall financial performance, reporting, accounting and internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, working capital management, and centralized financial operations.
The Finance Manager will oversee experienced finance leaders responsible for site-level accounting and divisional financial reporting. The role provides leadership, technical accounting guidance, financial oversight, and accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of all divisional financial results.
The organization operates with a degree of divisional autonomy while maintaining reporting and governance responsibilities within a larger, publicly traded global enterprise. The successful candidate must be comfortable leading the financial function of an operating division while ensuring adherence to corporate accounting policies, internal control requirements, governance standards, and demanding public-company reporting deadlines.
We are seeking a finance professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with practical manufacturing finance and operational leadership experience. Public accounting experience is valued; however, this position requires someone who has transitioned into an operating environment and demonstrated direct accountability for financial results and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain overall accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of consolidated financial reporting across multiple U.S. operating locations.
Provide technical accounting leadership and guidance on complex or non-routine transactions, accounting judgments, and corporate reporting matters.
Review and challenge financial statements, significant accounting conclusions, balance sheet accounts, estimates, reconciliations, and reporting submissions.
Lead, develop, and mentor site-level finance leaders and the divisional financial reporting team, establishing clear accountability across the organization.
Ensure effective monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes that consistently meet corporate reporting deadlines.
Maintain ownership and visibility over divisional P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, inventory, and working capital performance.
Provide oversight of centralized Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Treasury, and Procurement functions supporting the operating locations.
Lead divisional budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance analysis.
Partner with Operations and Commercial leadership to evaluate business performance, identify financial risks and opportunities, and support strategic business decisions.
Oversee inventory accounting, cost accounting, physical inventory controls, production variances, and other critical manufacturing finance activities.
Maintain responsibility for internal controls, SOX compliance, and coordination with internal and external auditors.
Ensure corporate accounting policies, financial reporting requirements, and reporting calendars are consistently implemented throughout the division.
Proactively identify financial, reporting, and control issues while driving timely resolution and appropriate escalation.
Build organizational capability, strengthen financial processes, and establish clear accountability across divisional and site-level finance teams.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including demonstrated leadership responsibility.
Strong technical accounting foundation with demonstrated ability to review, interpret, and take ownership of financial statements and significant accounting judgments.
Meaningful experience within manufacturing, processing, refining, metals, recycling, or another asset-intensive operating environment.
Strong understanding of financial reporting, balance sheet management, inventory and cost accounting, working capital, budgeting, and forecasting.
Demonstrated experience with SOX compliance and public-company internal controls.
Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage experienced finance professionals.
Experience operating within demanding monthly, quarterly, and annual public-company reporting timelines.
Strong business partnership skills with the ability to work effectively with Operations leadership and senior executives.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
Public accounting experience.
Combination of public accounting and subsequent operating-company finance leadership experience.
Multi-site or divisional finance leadership experience.
Experience reporting within a multinational or publicly traded corporate structure.
Experience providing technical accounting guidance on complex or non-routine transactions.
Experience overseeing centralized Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Treasury, and/or Procurement functions.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central, SAP, or comparable ERP platforms.
Leadership Profile & Success Factors
This opportunity is best suited for a finance leader who understands the distinction between preparing financial reports and being ultimately accountable for them.
The Finance Manager will inherit an experienced team responsible for site accounting and divisional financial reporting. The expectation is not that this individual personally executes every close or reporting activity. Rather, the successful candidate will establish financial discipline, provide technical accounting leadership, review and challenge reporting, identify issues before they become larger problems, and ultimately stand behind the financial results delivered by the division.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, business-oriented finance leader who can balance technical accounting expertise with operational partnership, strategic thinking, and organizational leadership.
