Senior Manager / Associate Director, Cost and General Accounting

Mercy BioAnalytics, Inc., is a biotechnology company dedicated to reducing suffering and saving lives through the early detection of cancer. Backed by extensive clinical validation, we are advancing one of the most important innovations in modern medicine: detecting cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages through a simple blood draw.

We are looking for a passionate individual to join our Accounting & Finance team, whose mission is to provide the financial insight, infrastructure, and reporting needed to support Mercy as we grow and scale.

This mission-critical role will lead cost and inventory accounting for the Company while contributing more broadly to general accounting and financial reporting. The role will be responsible for establishing scalable cost accounting methodologies and processes, leading the design and implementation of inventory, and costing capabilities within our financial systems, and partnering across the organization to provide meaningful visibility into product costs and operational performance. In addition, this individual will play an important role in the monthly close, general ledger, and technical accounting activities supporting our financial statements.

Candidates for this position must enjoy working for a fast-paced, innovative company, be able to work in a highly collaborative and teamwork-oriented environment and exhibit a passion for being a part of our life-saving mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead cost and inventory accounting: Own cost accounting methodologies and processes across materials, labor, overhead, inventory valuation, reserves, and cost of screening (COS), establishing the costing approach appropriate to the Company's stage and scale and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Build scalable systems and processes: Lead the design and implementation of inventory and cost accounting capabilities within our financial systems, including processes to support inventory tracking, costing, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Partner across the organization: Work closely with Accounting, FP&A, and colleagues supporting manufacturing, laboratory operations, purchasing, and supply chain activities to understand cost drivers and the underlying business processes, analyze variances, and provide meaningful financial and operational insights.
  • Own key close and reporting processes: Own significant areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries and account reconciliations for goods received but not invoiced leases, facility allocations, and other related complex accounting areas. Support financial statement preparation and analysis on a predictable reporting schedule.
  • Support technical accounting areas and financial controls: Research and document accounting conclusions, maintain accounting policies and process documentation, support the annual audit, and strengthen accounting processes and internal controls as the Company grows and scales.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA and/or public accounting experience preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant cost accounting and general accounting experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, life sciences, or similar environment
  • Demonstrated experience with cost accounting, including COGS, standard costing, inventory valuation, cost allocation, and variance analysis
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and hands-on experience with monthly close, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience implementing or enhancing inventory and cost accounting capabilities within ERP or other accounting systems
  • Interest in broad accounting ownership and in helping build the processes, systems, and controls of a scaling company
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial and operational data into clear business insights
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across finance and operational teams
  • Hands-on, collaborative approach with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities
  • Diagnostics, clinical laboratory, medical device, or broader life sciences experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
