Responsibilities

Software engineering is the disciplined application of engineering principles to the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of high-quality software solutions. This role combines senior technical leadership with people and delivery management, responsible for building scalable, resilient platforms while leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.

The Senior Manager of Application Development will lead global application development teams delivering mission-critical healthcare solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise across modern cloud-native architectures, strong product and stakeholder partnership, and accountability for delivery, quality, and operational excellence.

This role actively leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities including developer copilots, applied ML/AI services, and intelligent automation to improve engineering productivity, code quality, decision making, and platform capabilities while ensuring responsible, secure, and compliant use of AI technologies.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of complex, large-scale software systems with a focus on quality, performance, scalability, security, and resiliency.
  • Own and influence platform, application, and data architecture patterns; ensure solutions are maintainable, testable, and performant.
  • Solve complex technical problems through thoughtful design of APIs, data structures, data models, algorithms, and application flows.
  • Deliver solutions using the most appropriate languages, frameworks, patterns, and tools for business, product, and operational constraints.
  • Leverage and enhance existing platforms and shared utilities to maximize reuse and organizational efficiency.
  • Identify and execute refactoring opportunities to reduce technical debt in alignment with sprint, program, and roadmap goals.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends and thoughtfully apply them to products and operations.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools, techniques, and automation strategies that drive measurable improvements.
  • Lead the responsible adoption of AI‑enabled development practices, including AI copilots and intelligent tooling, to enhance developer productivity, code quality, and design effectiveness.

Development Excellence & Engineering Practices

  • Establish and reinforce engineering standards, best practices, and modern development methodologies.
  • Conduct and oversee effective design and code reviews, ensuring reviews are appropriately scoped and actionable.
  • Provide technical mentorship through hands-on design sessions, collaborative reviews, and coaching.
  • Ensure code quality, security, test coverage, performance, and compliance across all team deliverables.
  • Embed automation across testing, build, deployment, and operational processes; replace manual processes with measurable efficiency gains.
  • Promote DevOps and CI/CD best practices to enable faster deployment frequency, reduced cycle time, and higher system reliability.

People & Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and scale global teams of highly skilled software engineers across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, continuous learning, and peer feedback.
  • Mentor engineers, providing ongoing coaching, performance reviews, and actionable development plans.
  • Be accountable for the projects, systems, and code delivered by the team.
  • Inspire technical curiosity, professional growth, and leadership mindset across the organization.
  • Provide leadership oversight and accountability for the performance of senior technical staff.
  • Delivery predictability and sustainability by developing and updating the resources plans as required.

Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration

  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand customer needs and translate them into clear technical solutions.
  • Drive prioritization, roadmap creation, and quarterly planning aligned with platform and business goals.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical, executive, and cross-functional audiences.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, PMO, Data Services, DevOps, and other IT teams to deliver integrated solutions and process improvements.
  • Establish and manage collaborative relationships with vendor partners, monitor vendor performance, delivery, and compliance.
  • Develop and execute action plans to address operational gaps, risks, or improvement opportunities as directed by senior leadership.

Operational Accountability

  • Ensure delivery of business value meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and employment terms, adapting to evolving business needs.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of experience managing and leading engineering teams, including global or distributed teams.
  • Proven experience owning and delivering end-to-end technical solutions.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI or Generative AI tools, including developer copilots, to improve software development productivity and quality.

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with:

o Microsoft Azure (architecture, development, and deployment)

o C#, .NET Framework, .NET Core / ASP.NET Web API

o Full-stack development using Angular and/or React

o SQL databases

o Entity Framework / Entity Framework Core

o Microservices and domain-driven design

  • Experience with AI/ML, AI Copilot and data-driven solutions.
  • Solid understanding of HL7 and CQL within healthcare technology ecosystems.
  • Strong DevOps and CI/CD experience in cloud-native environments.
  • Proficiency with Git, GitHub/Git Actions, CodeQL, and modern development tooling.
  • Strong grounding in data structures, algorithms, and software platform architecture.
  • Experience working in Agile environments focused on faster deployment, and continuous improvement.

Product & Business Acumen

  • Very good understanding of Agile software development practices and the role of product management.
  • Solid knowledge of product management principles, including prioritization, roadmap development, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Healthcare domain experience strongly preferred.

Leadership & Professional Skills

  • Proven solution-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level communication.
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
