Description

Fountaine Information Systems, Inc.

Senior Low Voltage Technician

Location: San Jose, CA & Surrounding Bay Area

Build the Systems That Keep Businesses Connected & Secure

Fountaine Information Systems (FIS) is a family-owned technology integrator based in San Jose, serving businesses throughout the greater Bay Area. We design, install, integrate, and support technology systems that connect people, facilities, and businesses, from access control and video surveillance to alarms, structured cabling, networking, and automation.

We are a close-knit team that takes pride in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and taking care of both our customers and our employees. For technicians who want to expand their skills instead of being limited to one part of the trade, FIS offers the opportunity to learn complete systems from installation through commissioning.

Fountaine Information Systems is looking for an experienced Senior Low Voltage Technician with a strong background in commercial low-voltage and electronic security installations. This is a hands-on field position, not a help-desk, cybersecurity, or primarily office-based IT role. You'll install, troubleshoot, program, and commission systems including access control, IP video surveillance, burglar alarms, structured cabling, and door hardware.

We're looking for someone who already understands the industry, is comfortable working with tools and on ladders, takes pride in clean installations, and has the ability to grow into a leadership role running projects and supporting other technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, troubleshoot, and commission commercial low-voltage systems.
  • Install access control systems, including panels, card readers, electric strikes, maglocks, REX devices, electrified locks, exit devices, and related door hardware.
  • Install and configure IP cameras, NVR systems, surveillance equipment, and burglar alarm systems.
  • Pull, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot Cat5/Cat6 and other low-voltage cabling.
  • Mount devices, panels, cameras, sensors, and other system components accurately and professionally.
  • Perform system programming, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and door schedules.
  • Work safely with hand tools, power tools, ladders, and job-site equipment.
  • Assist with conduit installation and bending when required.
  • Coordinate effectively with project managers, customers, general contractors, and other trades.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites.
  • Help guide and support less-experienced technicians as your responsibilities grow.

Qualifications

  • Previous professional experience installing low-voltage, access control, alarm, surveillance, or related electronic security systems.
  • Strong hands-on installation skills; this position requires someone comfortable working in the field rather than solely with computers or networking.
  • Experience with access control panels, cameras, NVRs, alarm panels, structured cabling, and device installation.
  • Understanding of low-voltage cabling, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including IP addressing and PoE.
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Comfortable climbing ladders, working at heights, and performing the physical requirements of field installation work.
  • Able to work independently while also contributing to a small, collaborative team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Valid driver's license; a clean driving record is strongly preferred due to use of company vehicles.
  • Reliable transportation to the San Jose office or assigned job sites. Company vehicle provided for eligible field employees.

Preferred but not required:

  • Previous experience leading technicians or running jobs.
  • Door hardware installation experience.
  • EMT/conduit installation and bending experience.
  • Manufacturer certifications related to access control, surveillance, alarm, or security systems.
  • OSHA or lift certifications.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 72, or ADA requirements.

Pay & Benefits

  • Full-time, permanent W-2 employment.
  • Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
  • Health insurance.
  • Dental and vision insurance.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
  • Company vehicle (or vehicle allowance, depending on position and experience) for field employees.
  • Fuel card.
  • Tool allowance.
  • Overtime opportunities.
  • Paid manufacturer training, certifications, and professional development.
  • Opportunities to expand your technical skills and advance into project leadership.
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, with occasional overtime, early starts, or after-hours work depending on customer and project requirements.
