Job Details

Senior Linux Systems Integration Engineer
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) | Systems Integration | Automation | Troubleshooting

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Systems Integration Engineer to support the integration, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of complex, mission-critical technology environments.

This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering opportunity for someone who enjoys solving challenging problems across operating systems, software applications, hardware, networking, virtualization, storage, and security.
Unlike a traditional Linux administration position, this role focuses on end-to-end systems integration, requiring an engineer who understands how multiple technologies interact and can diagnose and resolve issues across interconnected systems.
The ideal candidate brings strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) expertise, experience integrating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software and hardware, and proficiency with automation tools such as Ansible and Bash.

Key Responsibilities
Linux Systems Engineering & Integration
  • Install, configure, integrate, upgrade, and troubleshoot COTS software applications and associated hardware.
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, including RHEL 7, 8, and 10.
  • Perform kernel upgrades, package updates, system patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Configure and maintain DNF repositories, including local and offline repository environments.
  • Support Linux-based workstations, thin clients, and remote display architectures.
  • Configure and troubleshoot GNOME, Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), headless displays, and virtualized monitor environments.
  • Support both development and integration laboratories as well as deployed operational systems.

Automation & Configuration Management
  • Develop and maintain Bash scripts to automate system administration, deployment, and configuration tasks.
  • Create, modify, and execute Ansible playbooks to improve deployment consistency and operational efficiency.
  • Utilize Git for version control and configuration management, including cloning repositories, committing changes, branching, and merging.
  • Develop repeatable deployment procedures and standardized system configurations.

Advanced Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization
  • Diagnose complex system performance, latency, and integration issues across multiple technology layers.
  • Troubleshoot CPU utilization, memory consumption, storage I/O, networking, virtualization, application performance, and remote display responsiveness.
  • Identify and resolve issues involving physical servers, workstations, peripherals, KVM switches, network infrastructure, and storage systems.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve system stability, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, customers, and technology vendors to resolve complex technical challenges.

Security, Compliance & Documentation
  • Configure and support Linux systems operating within SELinux and FIPS-enabled environments.
  • Assist with system hardening, security configuration, vulnerability remediation, and compliance initiatives.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, including system configurations, implementation procedures, troubleshooting findings, and operational processes.
  • Document changes, automation scripts, technical resolutions, and system integration activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong hands-on experience administering, configuring, integrating, and troubleshooting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7, 8, and/or 10) environments.
  • Mid-to-senior-level Linux engineering experience, with demonstrated success resolving complex systems integration issues.
  • Proficiency with Ansible automation and Bash scripting.
  • Experience with DNF package management and local repository configuration.
  • Working knowledge of Git-based configuration management, including cloning, commits, branching, and merging.
  • Experience performing RHEL kernel updates, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with GNOME, RDP, headless Linux systems, and virtualized display environments.
  • Strong Linux performance analysis and troubleshooting skills across CPU, memory, storage, networking, applications, and virtualization.
  • Experience working with SELinux and FIPS-enabled systems.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and integrating COTS software and hardware.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently while collaborating effectively with engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following technologies or environments is highly desirable:
  • Virtualization & Containers: Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (OSV), containerization, and high-availability architectures.
  • Networking: Cisco switches and routers, multicast networking, and BGP edge connectivity.
  • Enterprise Storage: NetApp ONTAP, MetroCluster, and Portworx.
  • DevOps & Automation: Jenkins and related continuous integration tools.
  • Security & Compliance: STIG implementation, system hardening, vulnerability scanning, and remediation.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience supporting air traffic control, aviation, or other mission-critical operational systems.
  • Certifications: RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA, Red Hat OpenShift certifications, CCNA, Security+, or comparable technical credentials.

What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means becoming a trusted technical resource who can integrate complex hardware and software environments, resolve challenging cross-platform issues, and maintain reliable, secure, high-performing Linux systems.
The successful engineer will bring a proactive, analytical approach to troubleshooting, demonstrate strong technical ownership, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Linux engineer who wants to move beyond traditional system administration and take on challenging, mission-critical systems integration work.
